Walked in today. 2:00 in the afternoon.. Exactly 5 tables filled… rest of the restaurant was completely empty. Hostess says it will be a 5 minute wait to clean a table. What??? I can clearly see the numerous open clean tables. She said 5 min wait. Much longer than 5 minutes she seats us at a table that had already been empty and clean. Really not understanding making us wait to be seated and the same thing was done to the couple in front of us also. Food was good, service good as well.
The food was always OK, not great, but without the BYOB option, I'm gone. Busy as can be with the neighborhood locals, but many of us, came for the first time with bottles, to be made aware at the door, no more. (nicely).
Although I have thoroughly enjoyed JTR in the past, this last experience was not good. We sat outside, party of 6, it took 15 minutes before we were even greeted. Once we informed someone that we were waiting, it took another 15 minutes to order and receive our drinks. The waitperson was poorly trained and several of our drink orders and our main course orders were not accurate. Sadly, we had family in town and had talked about how good the food and service normally is....Not sure if its the new location or the shortage of qualified help, but for a meal that cost quite a lot, we were thoroughly disappointed.
We prefer the Memorial location over this one. The service was satisfactory and the food was okay. We ordered the country fried chicken as a dish and wish we hadn’t. It tasted like it was overloaded with paprika. Won’t be ordering that again but the chicken and waffles was good. Usually have no complaints about the food otherwise.
Table are packed in . You get to hear conversations on both sides of your table. I paid $45 for a Fatty Steak not done. My wife got sea food and the waiter suggested to try a couple of sauces. He forgot to tell us each one is additional $8. When doors are opened wind blows in and you freeze. Was the first and last time we will go there.
The food, the service, the atmosphere and the prices made for a most wonderful Sunday brunch experience today! Thank you to our server for being so attentive. I will definitely be back.
I have been to their old location, but this was my first at Campbell Place. I stopping in with an old buddy for lunch and was not disappointed. Pros: Nice modern interior. Parking is free and plentiful (although much of the parking is in a parking garage). Full bar and a good reasonably priced wine list. A large menu with something for all tastes. We both had the Gulf Redfish. It was fresh and impeccably prepared. Cons: Although they have a nice outdoor seating area, noise from construction next door and the freeway is a problem.
The best neighborhood joint of all neighborhood joints to ever have or hope for. Exceptional quality, impeccable service, innovative menu items along with comfortable standards sure to please all palates. A longtime favorite of mine and countless others of the memorial area, I’m thrilled to be another regulars visitor at the second location they’ve opened to great success and an even larger following. Kudos, Jonathan & Sam. You certainly deserve this tremendous success bestowed upon you.
You got a love this place the food taste wonderful. Show up hungry very large portions.
My ribeye was sooo good. Crab cakes and chili shrimp were great, too. Will definitely be back.

This is one of the best restaurants in Houston!! Both locations are fantastic! Not only incredible tasting, but huge selection and most things are very reasonably priced!! The muscles in spicy marinara are incredible! So is the chicken piccata.
JTR has always been fantastic. However a visit there for dinner during HRW had several failures. Upon entry the hostess/waitress announced they would be utilizing a "Team" concept - which turned out to be a big FAIL. We were asked if we wanted water, we responded yes & it never arrived. So eventually we asked another Team member for water. The chicken/sausage Gumbo was fantastic - lots of meat and tasted wonderful. The Redfish smelled fishy as soon as it arrived. The fish topping was refrigerator cold, making the entree cold. No bread or sides came w/my husband's steak. After clearing our dinner plates - no other Team members looked our direction for 25 minutes. I eventually flagged down a Team member to inquire what had happened to dessert course? She seemed quite shocked & jumped into action. Turns out the bourbon bread pudding wasn't worth the calories, so very dry & no offer of coffee. Took a trip to the restroom & noticed a chef working in the kitchen with his mask under his chin. The bathroom was beginning to flood due to a kitchen problem. For the flood, they were very apologetic. I guess that will teach me to go to a restaurant during a pandemic!
The food is worthy of a five star restaurant. We eat here often and never have had a bad meal. Staff is friendly and efficient. Good wine list.
Another wonderful birthday meal last night!! Thank you Sam Levine & Johnathan’s the Rub!! Loved everything, including the Prosecco, meal and dessert. The Chicken Parmesan was the best I’ve ever had. And the Angel Hair Pasta with Alfredo Sauce - better than any Italian Restaurant I’ve been too. Everything was to die for! Thank you!
Great service. good finger licking food. inspite of covid times..felt a good vibe and warm.welcome...
