I love going to Katz's. This trip was to the location in Montrose. This was a breakfast with my girlfriend and as usual the food and service were both excellent.

First time back after 10 years. Their portion sizes for their sandwiches have changed dramatically and are much smaller. I wish it was like the pictures on their menu!!!! I would go there fairly often when I lived in Houston and they were on the list of places to eat when back in town. What a major disappointment!!!!!!

Typical Katz bathrooms upstairs, no elevator. Over decent enough, but I expected more from a deli. Ordered monticristo was terrible from the underwhelming French toast lite bread too the store bought tasting meat.

The fried pickle spears were the highlight of the meal. They were both crisp and juicy which is exactly what I want when eating fried pickles. The ranch dressing that is served with the pickles is the co-star of this dish. The ranch dressing seems to have a little extra dill which is a very big dill to us! 😂. We had the Bagel Bundle with cream cheese in lieu of Swiss. The everything bagel was just that. Crunchy, chewy and impossible to put down. The cream cheese was ample without being too much. The eggs were okay but not as seasoned as I am used to. But it was still an excellent choice for me. I had the Boozy Peach Tea which was a great choice but I was only advise one because they will sneak up on you.

Went here for the first time a few weeks ago since I live close by. The service was great! They were very kind and funny, and they were quick with the service. We ordered breakfast, and it came out hot and fresh. I got waffles, the potato hashbrown thing, and some bacon. Would definitely order this again.
The interior was also nicely decorated. It was definitely not what I was expecting to see. Cool bar stools and neat art decoration.

Amazing food, staff, and drinks. Why the 1 star you may ask? They removed my hot turkey sandwich from their menu....

Almost every food item ordered looked and tasted unappetizing. Only the burger and the pasta were worth ordering. The other sandwiches and brunch items were sad. The milkshake came out lukewarm and didn't taste like much more than milk. The server was slow and didn't refill anyone's waters. Another server handed out our meals and was upset that we asked for an additional plate for a meal we told the original server we were sharing. Over all just not very considerate and the food wasn't even good.

Consistently attentive staff. Deli food is somewhat predictable-ish. Def a new favorite. Open 24hrs. Love it.
Always good 👍 everyone should have a opportunity to go there

Came here after a night out for my friends bday and the wait system was completely unorganized. Only asked for a name and we were told it was a 15-20 min wait. We stood outside listening for names the entire time, 40 minutes later I asked about our table and was told we missed our name I said no I’ve been standing right there the entire time they never called our name. Then was told I could be put back on the waitlist for another 30 minutes, that’s extremely unprofessional in any setting especially to blame a customer for their mistake. They NEVER called our name. The manager was extremely rude and was talking to me like I was drunk or something I was completely sober. Even the security guard apologized and said it was wrong what they did to us because he knew we were standing right outside the door the entire time. Never coming back here again and judging by the reviews, the food sucks anyway.

Food was fantastic, I was impressed by the pineapple slaw that accompanied my Scottie sandwich and the red velvet cheesecake, genius and scrumptious. Going back to try something else on the menu!

They say never meet your heroes. I wish I had listened.
I came into this experience genuinely looking forward to it. The place came highly recommended, and after hearing good things, I figured it was finally time to see what the hype was about. My party ordered one appetizer, three entrées, and one side. The final total came out to about $100 with the tip — not outrageous in today’s economy, so that didn’t bother me too much at first.
What did bother me, though, was the feeling that I got significantly less than what I paid for. I spent around $30 just on my portion of the meal, and what I received in return was nothing short of underwhelming.
Let’s start with something small but telling: the ranch. I had asked for a side of ranch dressing with my food — nothing special, just your everyday ranch — and was told it would be an extra $0.99. For a little condiment. At that price point — again, I paid thirty bucks for my meal — it felt absurdly petty. I ended up skipping it entirely on principle. If you’re going to charge almost a dollar for something that’s usually complimentary in most restaurants, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth before the food even hits the table.
And unfortunately, the food didn’t do much to turn things around. The fries were limp, soggy, and greasy — somehow managing to be both overly oily and totally flavorless. No seasoning, no crisp, nothing. My sandwich was even more disappointing. It tasted like whoever cooked it had never met salt or pepper in their life. The meat was bland, the textures were off, and worst of all, the bread was so soaked in grease it was practically disintegrating in my hands. I kept taking bites hoping it would get better — it didn’t. It felt like the kitchen had given up before they even started.
To make matters worse, I only discovered after the fact that they tacked on a $2 charge just for using a credit card. No signage, no heads-up — just a little surprise fee buried in the bill. In 2025, with the cost of meals where it is, I’d expect a place to just absorb that kind of charge. It wasn’t the amount that bothered me — it was the lack of transparency. It felt like nickel-and-diming at every turn.
Now, to be fair, the staff were lovely. Every single person we interacted with was kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. That’s the only reason this review isn’t harsher. The front-of-house team is doing their job well — but it’s hard to enjoy good service when what’s coming out of the kitchen is such a letdown.
All in all, this was a disappointing experience. I wanted to like this place. I really did. But between the bland food, the greasy textures, the upcharges for basics like ranch, and the hidden fees on the bill, I walked away feeling like I had paid a premium for mediocrity.
Two stars — one for the staff, one for the effort. But this place has a long way to go before I’d consider coming back.
