We had not been to the Kim Son Vietnamese restaurant on Jefferson for several years. We were driving through downtown Houston so we stopped in. We normally went to the location on the SW freeway in Stafford that was close to our home. It is a shame that it closed because the greedy landlords raised the rent by too much to stay there and be profitable. Sad that downtown is less safe and glad they have a security guard. Kim Son in downtown Houston never disappoints. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and attentive service. The menu offers a wide range of traditional Vietnamese and Chinese dishes, and everything we tried was packed with flavor.
The dim sum is a must—fresh, hot, and beautifully prepared. I also highly recommend the salt & pepper shrimp and the pho, which had a rich, savory broth.

My ex student Tao La gave me a gift voucher over 40 years ago to take my now dearly departed mom and he wanted to show his appreciation for his Spanish teacher. He is the son of owner back then. I hadn't been there since. Everything they are famous for was so delish. Lots of hispanic graduates were celebrating with their families and my husband and I enjoyed the wonderful Mongolian beef which we shared.
