I love this old school Asian bakery. The price is right, the flavor is on point, and the pastries are light and fluffy. I usually order the bbq, curry, and pineapple custard baos. They run out fast and you need to call and order ahead of time. Cash only!

King Bakery is a staple asian bakery in Chinatown. It evokes a very nostalgic feeling for me since I grew up eating their bread. In fact, nothing much has changed about the taste of the bread and the ambiance. Make sure to bring cash so you can buy the bread. Luckily, amidst all the changing food trends and increased prices, King Bakery has maintained its low pricing with items around $1.5
1) Pineapple Bun - The bolo bun is a classic! Top crust of buttery sweet crumble and a fluffy light bun
2) BBQ Pork Bun - My personal favorite. It is a bun with a great chew factor and it has sweet bbq pork filling. Great flavors
3) Pork Sung Bun - A pork floss mayo mixture on the top, so it's slightly sweet and salty.
4) Egg Tart - A lot of people's favorite! To me it is pretty good (I still prefer Eck's, but it is solid)
5) Curry Bun - My dad's favorite. Good filling
6) Raisin Bread - The flavor and texture of the bread is simple and good with a sprinkling of sweet raisins.
I think King Bakery is one of the best mom-and-pop shops that serves traditional cantonese style baked goods. It's a no-frills type of place that deserves a try!

Get there early for pineapple buns and baked BBQ pork buns. The egg tarts won't be available until 10:30 am. Prices have gone up as well.

Highly recommend this place for BBQ pork buns. The size is about a hand with bbq pork inside and baked skin on the outside. The bread is soft and the seasoning is good. No where can beat the price of this place. It is also delicious. Perfect for a quick breakfast or snack

There was a line out the door at Noon on Saturday. The cases were empty, but they still had racks of pastries left. We came for the bbq bun and egg tarts, but ended up trying one of their hot dog buns, pineapple buns, and coconut milk cream buns. The only one we would try again was the coconut one. The egg tart had very little flavor. The bbq bun was decent, but nothing special. Prices are very reasonable, but this place is cash only.

No frills in this bakery. We always order their barbecue buns (@ $2.25 ea) which is always popular. Hot freshly baked…delicious!! Sometimes you have to wait for the next batch tho. They offer different kinds of breads too.

Incredible pastries! Do bring CASH tho! Since it’s cash only
ONLY CASH!!! And hard to believe so cheap
All bread we had was good especially pork bun. Not too strong taste but savory is there with soft bun. A staff is so nice.
Sorry we forgot cash and took a while to finish our order.
Definitely come back again.
The bbq bun is really good. A must try Chinese bakery in Houston Chinatown. If you wanna eat the Chinese steam bbq bun, you have to go really early becoz it is very limited and they ran out within two hours of their opening. The price is affordable. Plus, they only accept cash so don’t forget to bring some cash.
