The vibe of the restaurant is very basic, not a presentable place. Since the all-you-can-eat price point is $29.99, I don't want to complain too much.We came on Friday night, and the house was full. However, the wait staff was completely short-handed. We waited relatively long for our soup to start our dinner.One of the deal-breakers that will make us never return to this restaurant is the beef. The quality was good, but the wait staff intentionally delayed or cut back the orders we made for beef. We came with 10 persons and ordered 8 portions of beef. We had waited 15 to 20 minutes and were only delivered 4 portions. Even when we kept reminding the wait staff and requesting more orders, we were still not served or were under-served. It was very obvious that the all-you-can-eat deal wasn't really "all you can eat."There are so many Korean shabu restaurants, like Shabu Zone and Shabu En. The price may be $5 more for all-you-can-eat, but the vibe is much better, and we never experienced a cut back or withholding of orders. We were really unsatisfied with our experience.

It’s such a nice place to come to, it’s always really relaxing just to be in here, you can taste everything is fresh and homemade. Staff is wonderful, they make you feel like you’re family here! ? I can’t wait to come back and have the hotpot, but even the a la carte menu is really good too!

Wow I can’t wait to try this place in person. I ordered food to go and it was packaged well and absolutely delicious. The Kim chi was so fresh and perfect sweet and spicy and salty combination. I ordered three dishes and everyone enjoyed it at home. The restaurant was cozy and clean, and staff so nice .

This used to be a soup noodle place and has since been completely remodeled. It now offers - dare I say - the best individual hotpots in Houston.
That's a bold claim given we have so many hotpot spots. So what do I base that on?
1. The variety of items. The seafood and veggie+ bar is impressively varied, and with 12 cuts of meat offered for dinner, Kim Shabu gives you permutations and combinations of concoctions between veggies, meats, seafood, carbs, and sauces. Don't skip on the rice cakes and the hand-pulled noodles towards the end.
2. The freshness. This is unbeatable. I don't know how they offer so many items and yet keep them all so fresh. I probably ate a pound of mushrooms and crown daisy each, and don't get me started on the meat. So fresh and so good. Such good quality.
3. The flavors. Both the House and Beef broth are delicious. While my pot tasted like really thick mushroom soup by the end of the meal, the broth was good from the get go. The sauces were also spot on. The avocado sauce was so good and spicy, and I also enjoyed the soy-based House and Ponzu sauces as well as the black sesame sauce. And the peanut sauce. And the ssamjang. I ate a lot of sauces.
Service was also prompt. I'm really happy with this find!
Edit: Turns out that I really disliked my experience at this location prior to the remodeling, but definitely go and support this new hotpot gig. The Shabu is fantastic.

Whenever we have a craving for shabu-shabu, we always come to Kim Shabu. We've been to many different shabu restaurants in Houston, and this one is by far and beyond the best we've experienced.
They offer individual broths of your choice with personal stoves and offer a bar that has all the vegetable sides and even some seafood like shrimp, crawfish, clams, and mussels.
We prefer the higher quality meats they offer on the dinner and weekend menus, and the price is a bit higher, but it is well worth it. They offer 5 different cuts of beef for the lunch and 10 varieties of meat for the dinner and weekend options. The meat is unlimited, and they will always bring you more broth wherever you need. The bar also offers rice or noodles for your soup.
The literal "icing on the cake" is their delicious ice cream. They have a self-serve ice cream scoop area at the bar, which has green tea, strawberry, chocolate chip, and vanilla ice cream.
We were celebrating a birthday this time, and they were nice enough to bring us a birthday cheesecake and sing Happy Birthday to my mother.
The staff is friendly and attentive, and always check up on you to see if you need another order of meat dishes. Highly recommend!
