I was walking through the tunnels at Pennzoil Place when this sweet smell caught me off guard—like someone just pulled a fresh batch of cookies out of the oven. I followed it and found myself in front of Michael’s Cookie Jar. I’m not even a big cookie person, but that aroma? It pulled me in like a warm hug.
Inside, I met two friendly women behind the counter, their names are Deja and Katherine baking and serving with smiles like they were handing out little pieces of joy. I decided to try a few—starting with the lemon cookie, and let me tell you, it might be the best lemon cookie I’ve ever had. Bright, soft, and just the right mix of tart and sweet. Their chocolate chip was classic and comforting, and the chocolate cookie? Rich, deep flavor—like a brownie’s cooler cousin. But the toffee pecan… that one stole the show. It was warm, nutty, sweet—like someone bottled up a cozy afternoon and baked it into a cookie.
They’ve got more than just cookies too—cookie cakes, milk, soft drinks, and even gluten-free options already wrapped and ready to go. They make dog treat cookies, and every month they come out with a new flavor, so there’s always something fresh to try.
Katherine and Deja told me that any cookies they don’t sell by the end of the day go into a container for the next day—and you can get those at half off. That’s the kind of deal that makes you feel like you’re in on a sweet little secret. And on Mondays, they do happy hour—two cookies for just $3. That’s hard to beat.
There’s even a cozy little seating area, so if you’ve got time, grab some milk and stay a while. Whether you’re a cookie lover or just need a break in your day, Michael’s is worth the stop. It’s one of those places that reminds you how something simple—like a really good cookie—can make your whole day better.
Deliciously Toxic Foodie
I'm bad about remembering to leave reviews of places, even places I've been 100 times, so I'm trying to fix that for a place that has earned 5 stars from me. I really do love these cookies, and the staff are always kind.
The cookies were super fresh and soft and well made.
Huge fan of Michael's Cookie Jar. The fresh baked goods are not only delicious and fresh, they are picture perfect. Staff is amazing. Highly recommend both locations.

When the recipe is baked right, these cookies can’t be beat. I love tiff’s treats and these cookies. My favorite cookie out of all brands and flavors is the lemon cookie from Michael’s. Trust me, it’s VERY good. I’ve been coming to this location for almost 4 years.

Incredibly helpful staff!!
Because it’s only a few blocks from my office, I’ve only been to the Michael’s Cookie Jar store located in the Houston Downtown North tunnel. After several months of walking by and trying desperately to ignore the amazingly delicious smell of the cookies coming from the store, coupled with numerous mentions by coworkers, I finally walked into Michael’s Cookie Jar…They “had me at HELLO,” by offering their newest seasonal cookie: the Pumpkin Spice Latte Cookie. OMGeee! I’ve been in love since the first bite! What you can’t see in the picture of this cookie is the creamy latte center where all the flavors magically came together for me, sealing the deal on my return as a repeat customer. This little spot of cookie heaven is worth the extra pennies spent for an indulgently sweet and delightful splurge. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
