Ok I just came to say that I’m extremely sad that his place is closing down. When me and my husband started dating we used to come here at least once per month. When I was pregnant, i used to crave their ramen and eat here all the time. Right after delivery, my husband got me sushi from here. This was 10 years ago!! We moved to Denver and I always wanted to come back to Houston only to eat at Nippon.

One of my top choices for sushi in Houston and I get to practice speaking Japanese because they're a proper Japanese restaurant. Also, I love that they let me bring my own sake. The cork fee isn't bad.

yk i was really excited when i moved so close that i could walk to nippon. i ordered a to-go meal, and as i was paying, my card was flagged for fraud during an order, so i stepped outside to settle it with my bank and was told i couldnt use it for 3 days, so i just walked away.

tell my WHY THEY CALLED ME BACK TO YELL AND REPRIMAND ME OVER THIS?????? like horrible horrible horrible, literally chastising me over the phone saying how could you not come back in what am i supposed to do with this food yada yada, but SCREAMING AT ME. ive worked in multiple sushi restaurants and when a GUEST couldn't pick up their meal, yk what we did? shrug it off and go about our day. I mean the audacity. sushi is mid as heck too not even worth the price, i was just paying for convenience. they are going to have to do a lot to convince me to come back bc i was buying very frequently so i still cannot believe they blew up over 1 order when i had made dozens before!!!!!!!!

shameful behavior. terrible guest hospitality. hate this place now.

Ordered Katz don and 8 pieces of sushi of my choice. Katz was fried too much so felt too stiff. Sushi was really disappointing. Sushi rice was not cooked for sushi. The same cooked rice was used as in the katz don, which makes the sushi rice crumble too easy. Cooking fish was not right as well. Couldn’t feel the smoky flavor and sava tasted too fishy.

It used to be the gem in the 2000s, this place desperately needs a renovation.

This is the best sushi I’ve ever had. The nigiri melts in your mouth and the shaggy roll is sooo incredible. I first tried this place with my fiance 4 days ago and we couldn’t stop thinking about it so we went again today.

Also everyone who works there is super nice and attentive.

Parking is a bit limited but we’ve been lucky enough to snag a spot both times we’ve a gone.

Anyway, I definitely recommend this place!

When I saw their menu and chefs, I had high expectations for this place thinking it would be authentic. Turns out it is everything I want in a Japanese restaurant that I would regularly come!
We love the outside decor and greenery, hard to find such in US.
And their menu items have a great variety of authentic Japanese dishes literally covers a bit of everything from Izakaya dishes to even nabes. I was really surprised that they serve ankimo also.
We ordered tempura, kaki fry, yakitori, saba and caterpillar roll. Everything was great down to details.
The only thing I would complain about is their waitresses. They were very slow and hard to get a hold of, when I asked for soy sauce the waitress completely missed me and even the sushi chef saw me waving and reminded her that I was calling.
Lastly the pricing of this restaurant is surprisingly a bit below what we originally expected, which makes us want to come back even more!
