Should update your times online so that patrons do not waste their time driving to a closed restaurant.
We were here 5 years ago during out 3 week stay and ate here 3 times, it was great and we loved it. So we came back, the sign in the window said open, Google said open but the dead bolt at the door told the story. We even called as we were walking back to the truck no answer. I hope the grandson can get it going again soon.Get a job, stop the extra $300. unemployment like Montana, we need workers!!!
After visiting several times on the past, I never expected the experience we had tonight. Walked in around 7:45, there were only about 5 tables occupied. There were two other couples at the hostess podium waiting to be seated. We stood there about 10 min waiting to be seated. There were 2 servers a cook a bus boy and a cashier. The young man who finally seated us, Dillon, was all over the place. He took our drink order as he walked by, placing cups of butter on the table. We received our complementary fried okra and two rolls after a few more min. We had to hunt someone down to take our order about 20 min after being seated. Our food arrived about 20 min later. We had to ask for utensils, twice, because Dillon was being interrupted by the cashier who had been running around the restaurant giving orders, never speaking to any customers.....I assume he is the manager .....he heard Dillon say he was grabbing the utensils and interrupted that task twice. We ordered the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes (after being told there were no baked potatoes, but another table ordered them). The rolls, potatoes, green beans, breading on the steak and gravy had lots of flavor, but the meat.....no. tasted like the cheapest piece of meat, like it was "watered down" and mine was tough. I could barely eat it only finishing less than half of the damn thingBasically......everyone seemed in a rush, totally organized/nothing prioritized /extremely shorthanded. This place use to be wonderful. I don't think I will be back.
Wouldn’t even give them one star; please save yourself the wait.1. I understand how it is to work short staff but his manner of approaching us was rude and unprofessional.“I can’t tell you a wait time, we are short staff. No mask and spitting on our face aggressively and assertive.”We were just asking for a wait time; their were so many empty tables. A couple had arrived after us and they were sat down. Meanwhile someone who worked their was laughing at our situation.2. When we were sat down, we got one menu that was full of smeared food of who knows what.We left.I recommend you close; you are not the only business who has worked short staff. And it shouldn’t be used as an excuse to were you treat your customers like trash.
Just walked into the place. They had one table with ppl in it and maybe two waiters. They walked by us and never even acknowledged we were even there. Another couple was leaving and said they told them them didn't have any help and it would take them an hour to get them any food because one customer was to much for them handle apparently. Then they said it only had one item off the menu available. There was dirty rags laying on the ground and on tables. Looks like it is about to go belly up to be honest. That is awful because I use to love this place and it was always busy. But like I said it had help wanted sign up and one table they were waiting on and couldn't do that. But what got me the most was they didn't even say hi to us when they walked by us. Crazy!
I doubt the doors are still opened. But incase you think this the place to go based on old reviews be forewarned it is not the old restuarant. It has been more than a year since our last visit. The old fun atmosphere of "Throw'd Rolls" Potatoe Patch has died. Short version of our experience, Empty lot. Empty, dark restaurant. The staff of 2 didn't know how to turn on but one row of lights. One family was seated. 2 nice young people with obviously no experience waiting tables started with a long list of what they did not have available. 2 tables 2 waiters and I briefly saw one person come in much later, from the kitchen who knew where the light switch was located. Ok, I said short but so many bizarre things happened. Just the short list: eternity to place orders, Drinks took a very long time to arrive and were off, first family left after a lengthy wait, 4 other groups attempted to come in and were seated and left , we were the lone table. We stayed because we felt sorry for the two earnest but obviously in over their head waiters. Our server charged us for two adult dinners( it was supposed to be 2 children's dinners, one Entre, one Baked potato. They brought me a side salad because they didn't have baked potatos (but charged me for the baked potato because she didn't know how to take it off the ticket) Large serving of mashed potato's were served not cold but directly from the refrigerator cold along side a warm hamburger steak. Rolls were promised and were ok. over done on top. Butter scoops fresh looking and cold, best part of the meal. Muffins did arrive at the end of a really long wait, totally overcooked and burnt. Endured the meal for the promised muffins for the grandkids. $50 plus tip for 2 kids meals, one entre, underdone & overcooked rolls and burned muffins, 2 undrinkable teas, 1 milk, (did not charge for drinks) . Then the walk to the bathroom was even sadder other side of the restaurant was dirty, cluttered. But there was toilet paper hand soap and paper towels. I really miss the old Potatoe Patch. I wish this was not my last memory of the wonderful fun family restaurant of old with baseball tosses of hot fresh from the oven fragrant delicious rolls across the restaurant.
The food was great but didn't get drink order for 15 minutes. Should have known then we were going to be a while. Got there about 12:45ish and didn't leave til 2:45. So basically it took 2 hours to order and eat. But the food was definitely good. Not sure if will be back, not coming from the spring branch area.
What happened to this place? Is it new owners or what? Everything was off. Nothing tasted good. Not even mashed potatoes! How do you mess up mashed potatoes! New employees are slow, unprofessional. One of the “servers” was wearing regular crocs! This place is dying and needs serious help!
Terrible experience. If you used to love coming here like us. DON'T. IT HAS CHANGED TO THE WORSE. There is so much that was wrong with today's visit.Food was cold. Employees wearing masks under thier chins. Out of almost everything, vegetables, straws, to go plates, food on the menu. The waiters said there was no cook in the kitchen, I was ready to leave in the 1st 10 minutes. My wife wanted to give them a chance. We used to come here almost every 2 weeks or so. This place has changed. What a shame!!My kids were not comfortable with the way they handled the food plates. Another family came after us, they were seated and then an employee was wiping the table while the 4 people were sitting there arguing with the busboy . They got up and left. My doughter heared 2 of the employees complain about the people coming in since they wanted to close down for the day because they were not enough people. There was 4 tables going including us. It was the worst experience I have had ever. We will not be coming back here anymore. It is very sad.
My family started going here shorty after it opened in 1988. We moved away 28 years ago and had not been back until today. Gone are the days of the piping hot and fresh fried okra and fried green tomato free starters. We did get a small bowl of lukewarm-cold okra, but they don’t offer the tomato any more. Gone are the days of throwed rolls, biscuits and assorted muffins. We arrived right at noon and were informed the rolls were in the oven. When one finally arrived, it was certainly hot, but very dense. No butter...tracked down the server to bring some. No biscuits or muffin at all. Gone is the delicious complementary banana pudding. No deserts offered. The laminated one-page menu has a few anomalies. Sides have been completely removed...the server has a crib-sheet of what’s available that day. Prices are up about 20% from a recent menu on Trip Advisor. The restaurant’s website had been deactivated. The interior and restrooms are in desperate need of attention and updating. It was also evident that the place is extremely under-staffed...two wait staff, one person serving drinks and bussing tables, and one person in the kitchen. With so many things for which it was “famous” now gone, I interior and exterior needing attention, and almost no staff...too many signs that this place is not long before closing...so sad, since I remember the wonderful times back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. On the bright side, the wait staff was certainly trying to make the best of it. The main entree - chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy - was served piping hot and tasty.

This place used to be so fun and customer oriented. I took my husband there last week. After waiting 10 minutes, the gentleman asked if we wanted rolls. We said yes and asked the waitress to bring us plates, butter and at least water. She literally flung the plates at us like a Frisbee.
The menu has changed. It has been simplified due to Covid-19. The service for a big group was lacking. The liver and onion is grilled and not fried. So heads up if you expect liver to be battered and fried. Broccoli is overcooked and too salty. This place has changed and not the same like before Covid. So sad.
The rolls were great and fluffy! But the other food was not good at all. We ordered 3 cheese burgers and the burger and the bread were burnt. Like tasted like charcoal.
This place has gone downhill fast. From sitting down I knew I was in trouble. No menu, no silverware, asked what I wanted to drink. I said coffee, with cream and sugar. No cream, so milk will have to do. Then no sugar, they bring out artificial sweetener. My pierced and tattooed waiter seems to have a hygiene problem as he serves my overcooked (yesterday's) meat loaf with VISIBLY dirty hands and painters tape covering something on his middle finger. Also, the flavored rolls are no longer being handed out.
Don't bother with this place. I've eaten there in it's prime and they are a far cry from those days. From the lack of sanitation, poor service, poor food and lack of having the menu items available, I'll never go back. It used to be such a great place to eat. It's so sad to see what it has become.
