Everything sbout Salento was perfect. But what really makes the difference is the personalized attention every guest gets from it's owner. Definitely a stable in the Rice neighborhood for more than 20 years.
The meals were well prepared. Given how few people were there, I was surprised how long it took to prepare the meal. Our waitress was new and was sometimes a little forgetful. The restaurant was quiet, making conversation easy.
I LOVED this restaurant! The food was AMAZING! Super friendly staff and atmosphere, and it was very romantic!
Took 30 minutes to be acknowledged at our table. An hour after ordering to get first course. Full brunch took over 3 hours! If anyone had even tried to acknowledge us and explain they were short staffed or sorry it was taking a while would have understood. But mostly just ignored for 95% of the 3 hours.
Had brunch here with a friend to try the HRW menu since it was also my first time dining here. The food was good, only the dessert empanada was not as impressed. I got the guava & brie one, was a little disappointed because there wasn't much filling and any fruit seems like was just jam. It felt dry and didn't help we didn't get water refills. While I enjoyed the atmosphere, it seemed the restaurant had only two waitresses working that morning, which unfortunately as it got busy, our water was never refilled even after flagging different people on 4 separate times. they should of left a flask/jar to refill ourselves. towards the end it took forever to get the dessert as well as the check. A table next to us was waiting probably just as long and they ended up asking for their dessert to go since it hadn't come out. Because of that experience it makes me not want to come back at all. Since im not in the area, is hard to have reason to go back.
Had HRW menu. Mussels and paella were excellent! Really enjoyed guitarist singing French songs. Will definitely go back
Great little spot - Food was delish! Service good. Selections great. Nice evening. Thanks.
This place is a gem. We love the outdoor patio. There is live music on Thursdays and Saturdays. The food is excellent. Gambas Al Ajillo is a great starter. Mussels are tender and served in a flavorful tomato based broth. The butternut squash is excellent - almost like a bisque. Our go to is the Tuscan Salmon. The fish is cooked perfectly.
Speed is spotty. The servers are all kind and attentive. Kitchen speed is unreliable. Sometimes your food comes out quickly. And sometimes it takes ages.

Came for Houston restaurant week. Empanadas were good, but the paella was very subpar and missing ingredients listed on the menu. The cakes were also quite dry/lacking flavor.

The place needs some upkeep, unfortunately it is housed in an old commercial building and it seems it has fallen victim to humidity probles, I could sense a musky odor as we entered the space. The menu though has ample mediterranean offerings, the empanadas are great, and they offer thei evening cocktail hour with food which are a good deal, but I would definitively seat outside.

If you think this restaurant has a good paella, you have no clue what a Paella is. Nice atmosphere, that’s all

Visiting Rice Village presents many dining options. If you’re looking for a place with above average food that isn’t large and crowded, then a place you want to visit is Salento Bistrot.
With this bistro- style restaurant, you get a limited but delicious assortment of food options, from salads to pasta to sandwiches and tacos. I personally like the empanadas best. They have about ten from which to choose and if you want to make a meal out of it, you can get the empanada platter, which includes two empanadas and a side of soup. The empanadas feature a flaky crust and there are lots of creative choices among the ten.
Beer is a little bit lacking at Salento Bistrot, but they do have a nice selection of wine. There is outdoor seating, too, and the interior remains reasonably quiet, thanks to the fact that there aren’t that many tables or seats. This makes it a good restaurant choice when you want to eat and drink in relative peace and carry on a conversation with the person next to you.
Parking can be somewhat of a challenge at this restaurant. You need to look for a free spot on the street, or if you don’t mind paying, there is paid parking in the front and a parking garage across the street, which also carries a charge. They offer happy hour prices, too, so try to get here before the dinner rush, if you can.
Overall, I find Salento Bistrot a very nice, intimate place for food and drink. The limited menu means you don’t have to spend so long trying to make a decision and the tasty food will leave you feeling satisfied.

Food was good and service was nice. However, there was a toddler running around the patio seating area, talking loudly the entire time that was disruptive. It's always so disappointing when the parents are doing nothing about it. Not really the restaurant's fault and they did seat them away from us, but totally ruined the experience for us.
