PLEASE bring back the eel roll. It was my favorite roll in all of Houston and I feel lost without it. Thank you for your consideration.

A friend of our three “kept hearing about Sushi on Post Oak”, so we decided to come here for our catch up. Couldn’t have been luckier with our decision. Hosts were kind (and so well-dressed, go ladies), and our sever, Kirby, was the absolute best. He was so kind, so aware of the pace of our meal, so helpful with our questions, and funny too. Our food was incredible (we are looking forward to coming back for all the things we couldn’t try), but his hospitality made our meal what it was. If you visit, ask for him! We already look forward to returning. Thank you everyone!

**SOPO has become my go-to spot in the Galleria, and it’s not even close.**
I’ve been eating sushi in Houston for years, and Sushi on Post Oak has firmly planted itself at the top of my rotation. The chefs here understand how to honor traditional Japanese technique while bringing creative, modern flair to every plate.
Nigiri and sashimi are the real test of any sushi restaurant — when you’re serving a simple piece of fish over rice, there’s nowhere to hide. SOPO passes with flying colors. Their selection runs from pristine Salmon and Bluefin Tuna to luxurious offerings like Fatty Tuna, Salmon Belly, Ora King Salmon, and Sea Urchin. The Sous Vide Kobe nigiri melts on your tongue. The crudos are exceptional — particularly the Thai Chili Yellowtail with candied garlic, sanbaizu, and togarashi, and the Truffle Tuna with truffle citrus oil and yuzu tobiko. If you want the full experience, ask about the Executive Chef’s Omakase.
The specialty rolls showcase the kitchen’s creativity without veering into gimmicky territory. The signature SOPO Roll — tuna, salmon, and yellowtail topped with avocado, strawberry, candied jalapeño, and truffle plum aioli — is a showstopper. The Volcano Roll arrives at your table served on fire, baked with snow crab, scallops, and caviar aioli. The Arata Roll has a cult following for good reason, and the HTX Roll, Choo Choo, Blazing Tuna, and Godzilla Roll are all consistently excellent.
Don’t skip the small plates. The Tuna Tartare Tots are clever and delicious. The Blue Crab Fried Rice is rich and satisfying. The Kobe Hot Rock — cooking premium wagyu at your table — is perfect for date night. And those Brussels Sprouts are legitimately one of the best sides in the Galleria.
Now let’s talk sake, because this is where SOPO separates itself from the competition. They’ve curated one of the most impressive and extensive sake lists I’ve encountered in Houston. Whether you prefer something crisp and dry or rich and full-bodied, they have you covered — and the staff is genuinely knowledgeable enough to guide you to the perfect pairing without being pretentious about it. Their Japanese whiskey lineup is equally deep. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 2pm to 6pm, plus an all-day Sunday happy hour with discounted rolls, Sapporos, and Toki highballs.
Service is warm and attentive without hovering. The atmosphere is upscale enough for anniversaries but welcoming enough for a casual Tuesday lunch. They’ve got outdoor seating when the weather cooperates and a private event space next door for larger gatherings.
Plenty of restaurants can wow you once. SOPO delivers consistently, visit after visit. That’s what separates the good from the truly great.
Stop reading reviews and go make a reservation. Arigato, indeed.

As this restaurant is in the Galleria area, I anticipated big prices with little value. I was wrong.
Sushi On Post Oak is a charming spot with friendly staff and inviting, intimate ambiance. The lunch special of two rolls includes a wonderfully flavored miso soup that is much more than just salty broth.
I had the California roll, which was elevated by a sprinkling of black and white sesame seeds on top, and the spicy salmon roll, which was velvety smooth but for the crisp crunch of cucumber. Both were 8 pieces, and good-sized. Top quality freshness.
I will definitely return!

Great food, drinks and service! The lychee martini was excellent. The price per glass of wine for what bottles the sold were outrageous tho.

I stumbled across this sushi spot by chance, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The design and décor are beautiful .. casual yet elegant .. with every table offering the same comfortable, classy feel (no awkward layouts like some upscale places). The waiter was kind, attentive, and made me feel welcome even though I was dressed super casual. I tried the Tuna Tartare Tots he recommended, and they were incredible! The food, atmosphere, and service were all top-notch. I also loved that it’s connected to a pub .. such a cool, unexpected touch. I’ll definitely be back.

Carlos D was a great server! He was so lively and the perfect amount of attentive while not being overbearing. The drinks may be $17 but they are very strong so you get your money worth. The strawberry basil blitz is so cute it comes in a fish bowl, the lychee martini was refreshing and a little sweet. I had the vegan roll with was very interesting, it had a lot of fruits and tofu, I do wish there was some more avocado on or in it though. The Brussel sprouts were delicious, sweet and not spicy but had the smallest hint of chili. The edamame was perfectly salted, and a lot of variety of vegetables in the vegetable tempura. Further photoed is the spicy tuna roll, chirashi, rainbow roll, the HTX roll. The vibes were definitely worth it but I do think you can get better sushi elsewhere for a better price.

It was a refresher not being cohersed into valet parking, and started off my evening with a bang - parking btw was easy and plentiful. Our server Dat, was friendly and attentive and quick to fulfill our requests. The 5 of us found so many delicacies to enjoy and share, but my favorite was The Volcano (it's on fire!). Their restrooms occupancy is somewhat constrainted, and although you'll have access the adjoining bar/club facilities, it was a bit awkward moving from one biome to another. Overall a great experience and I'll return.

First let me start my saying Eric was an amazing host (Hope I spelled your name correctly) between the food, ambience, drinks everything was perfect. Even as the restaurant was closing which we didn’t realize because how comfortable we were there. I will definitely be back. This group executes in every way with every concept. Bravo!
