The food and service are excellent. Wonderful English atmosphere. So many great choices to pick from the menu.
A great restaurant! I know it best because it hosted some of the meetings for Houkulele, a ukulele social group. Besides their main eating area, they have rooms that can be set aside for purposes such as our ukulele jams. This is an especially valuable resource to have in this neighborhood where a lot of the restaurants are too small or busy for larger group activities.
SERVICE WAS AWFUL. The food was overpriced for very little amount. Had to ask the waitress 3 times for extra lemons for my water. Ordered an appetizer and it wasn’t even put in. Food sat there for a good 10 minutes before anyone actually brought it to us. Had to ask for my drink to be refilled, after waiting 15-20 minutes for our cards to be taken I had to take them myself. She proceeded to add her own $13 tip to each of our checks when she was useless. I definitely see why it’s shutting down.
Always a consistent favorite. Bartenders are excellent and food is still good after all these years of being a customer. The place feels very warm and homely. Outdoor seating is a nice option too in decent weather. Very highly recommended.
I've been eating at the Black Lab since moving to Houston. Other restaurants have come and gone, but the Lab has always been here. Now she too is closing her doors for good. I'll miss this little English Haven. Thanks for the good eats and healthy laughter.
Excellent, British-style pub. Very good food. Sometimes too dark inside. Park in the parking garage in the BACK. Unpretentious, laid-back, very British atmosphere. I suspect it's British-owned.
I chose to dine at The Black Labrador on my birthday. I was not aware that it was closing when I made this decision. The service was awfully slow and the food was bland and mediocre, at best.
Good food and a fun environment. The service was slow, but that was more due to the fact it was crowded and they were under staffed, so it is forgivable. Shame it's closing
Very cute restaurant with nice outdoor seating. The menu features British food with lots of choices. I ordered Beef Wellington that was a generous serving and tasty. The beef and the crust were both tough. It came with fresh steamed broccoli which had no seasoning or sauce but it was good. The service was good, like the food, but not excellent. Prices were a bit high for the food. There was nothing special about the food that would bring me back.
I wish the food or service was half as nice as the ambiance. The waitresses were rude and we felt very unwelcome as People of Color there. I ordered a bowl of soup which was half empty and very lukewarm and tasted like chopped tomatoes in a veggie broth carelessly thrown in with a gummy piece of cold cheese in it. One star because of the ambiance. What a waste of a great location! P.S. The menu is meat heavy so if you're vegetarian, don't bother as they can barely serve a veggie soup.

Very quaint, British pub type atmosphere on the first level with a piano lounge on the second floor Excellent fare with a must try of the Shephard's Pie! This is a nice place to bring a date, dine alone or simply to stop in after work and relax with a favorite beverage from an extensive beer list. Quiet enough for cozy conversation and loaded with British artifacts. Friendly staff and comfortable surroundings. An outdoor area that includes lounging and a playable giant-sized chess set. Great for friends to gather and hang out!
Awesome Shepard's pie! and the look and feel of the restaurant is wonderful.
3 might be on the polite side.. was once a leader and now there are better options. Great memories though.
The Black Labrador is a British pub-type restaurant located in the Montrose area. The atmosphere inside is a bit dark and dreary, but I suppose they are keeping with the authentic experience. There is also seating outside. We opted to go with the Chicken Tenders and the Fish & Chips. The tenders were okay..nothing to write home about. Fries and tenders were crispy and well seasoned. The Fish & Chips were quite disappointing. My fish lacked and depth of flavor and both of them had soggy undersides that made the whole thing fall apart as I dipped them in the tartar sauce. All-in all it seems like a nice place, maybe a didn't get the right things on the menu? Although you would think a British pub would have good Fish & Chips...
Shepard's pie was great - a little pricey for a "poor mans dish" ( as it's known) at lunch, but I would pay it again. I've made it and I'm an exceptional cook but there's was better. The cheese plate was also excellent and a little under priced, so I guess it worked out. Great service, unique cool place.
