It was definitely the worst pub on our night out. Went there as a Canadian supporting Canada. Not sure if the server that night was a bad one or a racist one. She never came to our table to get the order. She looked us dead in the eye and walked past us while serving other guests (all white men. We're brown). Waited there 20 mins and walked out because we were not served.

Poutine was really tasty, service was kinda lousy. Food was OK, but overly salty. Bartender was dismissive, maybe he has alot of things on his mind. Overall, there are better bars around

My roommate and I have been trying out new places in town as we are new to the area, so we came by to give this place a try the other night. When we got there, we found that you order everything through a QR code and the bartender or food runner brings everything. So this was a little odd because not a single person greeted us, nor were we able to just get some waters while we looked through the menu. This made things like asking for extra napkins, sauces, etc. more difficult. None the less, we weren’t completely discouraged by this and we ordered some apps that were pretty good. Midway through eating our entrees, I see a baby roach crawl across the table. Immediately we were both grossed out because it being a baby roach means there’s more hiding somewhere. I went up to the bartender to let her know, and she said “oh I’m sorry” and walked away with no further response or way to mitigate the situation. It honestly felt like an “oh well that sucks” , so we left with our half eaten food and half drunken beers still on the table. It was honestly just a really bad first impression, and a comp on the food or at least a drink would’ve been a nice gesture considering we couldn’t even finish our food not knowing where the roach came from. That on top of not even really having a direct kind of service is enough for us to probably not return. I included pictures of the bug.

A little complicated to order by the QR code on the tables, luckily the waitress was very friendly, however it seems that some orders were not exactly what was requested.

As a wayward soul from a small fishing village in rural Canada, I’ve found myself chasing the familiar in unfamiliar places. The Maple Leaf in Houston, Texas, was like a siren call—a reminder of home while nestled deep in the heart of the South.
The food here, quite frankly, is exceptional. I ordered the patty melt, and let me tell you, patty melts are sacred in Canada. There’s a reverence for the balance of crisp bread, juicy beef, and molten cheese, and The Maple Leaf delivered it flawlessly. The bread was perfectly toasted, the patty packed a rich and satisfying flavor, and the onions—oh, the onions. Caramelized to perfection, they brought a sweet, earthy depth that made each bite unforgettable. It was a meal I’ll be thinking about long after I’ve moved on down the road.
And then there was the pretzel. Soft, warm, with just the right touch of salt, it wasn’t just a snack; it was a revelation. The kind of simple yet outstanding fare that makes you pause and appreciate life’s small joys.
My one regret? The poutine eluded me this time, but that just gives me another reason to return. Poutine is a dish that carries the weight of my northern roots, and I’ve heard The Maple Leaf does it justice.
The Maple Leaf isn’t just a bar; it’s a crossroads of stories, a place where northern melancholy meets southern grit. It reminds me of why I left Canada, but more importantly, it reminds me of why I’ll always carry it with me. If you find yourself wandering the streets of Houston, drop anchor here. You won’t regret it.

Been living in Houston since March and driven by this spot many a time, so decided to stop in for Monday Night Football and was beyond disappointed. I have spent time in Montreal and wanted to try their Poutine, but they were out of the ingredients to make it right. I ordered wings and they were not cooked fully (blood on the bone) so that was a deal breaker. I was offered a replacement bowl of chicken and dumplings but by then, I couldn't trust the kitchen. The bartender was nice, but that couldn't compensate for the bloody chicken. I love Montreal but this place is far from it (literally and figuratively).

One of the only actual bars that’s a true bar in all of Texas. Bartenders are stellar.

Poutine was YUMMY. They do karaoke on Friday nights and it is the perfect level of professional and low key.

Amy took great care of us. Loved the homemade burger taste. Onion rings and tots were awesome. Enjoyed our time there.
