We arrived today at 1:30 p.m. and were immediately told that valet parking was mandatory at $6 with no self-parking option. That was the first surprise for a Thursday afternoon at a brunch restaurant.
The bigger issue came once inside when the hostess stated, “We have a rule that we do not allow Crocs in the restaurant, but you may sit outside.” As a medical research professional, I wear Crocs daily with scrubs and yet I was denied indoor seating in Houston, Texas.
Meanwhile, I observed other diners in flip-flops and sandals being served inside. That inconsistency makes the policy feel arbitrary.
But what made this especially painful and inconsiderate was the context of our visit. My sister-friend and I had just left her 7th round of chemotherapy in the Medical Center. Typically after treatment, we select a place for lunch. Today’s it was Sunrise House. Instead, we were told we could not sit inside and were forced to leave and find another restaurant after four hours of chemotherapy. We informed the hostess that we had just left chemo therapy and she did not offer a response rather a “Thank you for coming in.”
A restaurant that enforces a “no Crocs” policy while allowing sandals, lacks either compassion or common sense. This is yet another example of a rule without logic because today you all denied us lunch after chemotherapy.

We had a great experience at The Sunrise House! This was my second visit and I will keep coming back. The decor is absolutely gorgeous and the service was impeccable. I am so glad we were seated in J'Niya's area; her personality was warm and engaging and she offered great recommendations - the Hibiscus Crush and The Frenchie Melt were delicious! And the honey butter croissants are the best around...seriously! Do yourself a favor and just go!
