Came here last night for my sisters birthday. We made a comment to the server about the rice and he gave us a petty response “ Oh I don’t know I’m not the cook” restaurants are business that take your money in exchange for food and service. The servers attitude towards us the entire night was childish. We know he’s not the chef, he couldn’t stop sweating in the 2 minutes we conversed, he definitely wouldn’t make it in the kitchen. He brought us the scapes of bread they had in the back. Every question we had seemed to bother him.It felt like he didn’t want to be there at all.The food was mediocre at best.Would not recommend to anyone.

Short staffed, service is terrible. Waited for 30 minutes and didn’t get a cup of water

Extremely unprofessional. (BOTH VISITS) Gave management a chance to address my concerns before I posted my review. Tony’s mom wouldn’t do anything, and Tony completely ignored my message.

I had high hopes for Xin Chao after reading highly rated reviews, despite some mentions of the restaurant going downhill. Unfortunately, my experience was pretty disappointing.Even though I had a reservation, I was left waiting with no one at the front to seat us. Once seated, the waiter gave us different menus and it took 20+ minutes before he came to take our drink order. The table next to us actually walked out because they were waiting so long. Throughout the meal, I had to repeatedly call him over. It seemed he was the only one covering the entire restaurant, so I blame poor management for the lack of service. The food was average. Not bad but not great either:- Pork Belly Bao: Good flavor and well-seasoned but $7 for one bun is criminal.- Beef Dumplings: It was okay. The filling was just beef. I wish it was more substantial. It has potential to be a more complete dish. I wouldn’t get it again. $14- Smoked Beef Rib Flat Rice Noodles: I like the strong Vietnamese flavors. However, it was the most disappointing dish of the night. It boasts a large beef rib bone in the middle of the dish. But upon digging in, there is only a small amount of actual meat. I wish there were more noodles too. The dish was actually mostly vegetables. The dish would be more appropriately named “Vegetable Flat Noodles with Beef”. $29- Five Fungi Congee: The standout dish of the night. The mushrooms were cooked and seasoned well, with incredible flavor for a simple congee. $17- Nguyen-er Nguyen-er Chicken Dinner: Plain fried chicken that was under-seasoned. I was relying on the ketchup it came with to give it some flavor. I expected more lemongrass flavor as described. However, it was cooked very well. The fries were great, though. $26Overall, the food did not live up to Xin Chao’s initial rave reviews. More disappointing was the lack of service, indicating poor restaurant management. I understand restaurants have their occasional bad days and hopefully this was just that. From my experience, I would not recommend this restaurant unless significant changes were made in the food and service.

Food is very much worth the hype, ans the service is awesome! I accidentally left an item there, and the staff kept it safe before I even called to ask. I was able to pick it up the next day. Highly recommend to anyone in Houston ?

With Christine popularly winning master chef there was high hopes coming into this place. Unfortunately those hopes soon crumbled as soon as we got the food. The fried noodles were overly crispy to the point to where it was hard to eat and the worst of all was the brisket which came with 5 little pieces for 18$. The only saving grace were the drinks which were really good other than that I would avoid this place

Nice patio but we literally had to leave because we waited for about an hour and only got some of our appetizers

Super cute patio but some of the slowest and worst service i’ve ever had. Chicken skewers were huge chunks of chicken breast and not fully cooked. Not appetizing or food safe. Left after waiting 25 minutes for a beer and after being served raw chicken.

Went in for the crawfish deal. The ads on Instagram are very misleading. $40 for 5 lbs is ONLY crawfish, sauce is additional $10. The H-Town bang crawfish we ordered initially did not look like the video here, not even close, barely had sauce and no melting butter. We ordered Mild, but after getting more garlic butter sauce, it became way too spicy and salty, too much Cajun seasoning to the point not enjoyable. Yet the server claimed that is Mild. The chicken dinner is normal, nothing special. Server never checked on us. He did pack our food to-go. At the end, I looked at the receipt and got charged $51 for 5 Ibs. We were never informed the sauce is $11 and not included in the 5 lb for $40 “deal.” Overall, bad experience with food and service experience.

A couple of friends and I went to eat their 5lbs for $40 crawfish deal. We were sat down , but weren’t given a menu until 10 minutes later. We ordered the crawfish, eggrolls, and a dozen oysters. Our crawfish took forever to come out. The oysters came after, but also took long, maybe 20 min after the crawfish. Our eggrolls came as we finished everything else, but the server did not even give us any fish sauce or salad with it. Our server NEVER checked on us and everytime we asked about our food because we were afraid they forgot, he seemed upset. After the meal, I checked my receipt and they charged us $50 for 5 lbs, despite their “deal”, mind you , we ate on a monday at 5pm so theyre deal should apply. Will not be coming back here. Food was good but the service was godawful.

Best fried chicken I’ve ever had and all the food is amazing. Great drinks, great place, patio, service. Five stars isn’t enough.
