Now we know where Cracker Barrel got the inspiration to completely change their restaurant despite the majority of people loving it the way it was.

Been driving from Baytown to Humble for over 50 years and I just learned from the owner that the food hasn’t changed, just my taste has since getting older. Note: the recipes have in fact changed….

Good luck with your new young demographic.

I came here with my family, and it was an absolutely awful experience. I was served Pressed Chicken that had what looked like a fried cockroach or some kind of insect? crisped into it, which means it was cooked along with the food. On top of that, gnats were flying around the dining area, making the environment feel completely unsanitary. My daughter didn’t even touch her meal after seeing 2–3 of them buzzing around.

The only positive was one young Black woman working as a server (unfortunately I didn’t get her name). She was professional, attentive, and clearly doing her best under very difficult circumstances. I later learned she was new, but despite that, she provided excellent service with genuine care. She did everything she could, even though she had little to no help on a busy afternoon.

Unfortunately, the rest of the staff did not reflect the same effort. One employee continuously left the front, or sat at the counter with headphones in and didn’t step in to help at all.

The food did arrive on time, but given the bugs, hygiene issues, and overall lack of cleanliness, I couldn’t enjoy it. And the bathroom situation was just as unacceptable there was a roach on both the toilet seat and wall.

While I truly appreciated the effort of my server, I cannot overlook the overall conditions of this restaurant. Cleanliness and proper staffing should be the bare minimum, and this location is failing in both areas. Sadly, I will not be dining here again. This was a disgusting and disappointing experience that no paying customer should ever have to go through.

We live in college station and have never found a Chinese restaurant that has as good tasting food as jade palace. The egg rolls and bbq ribs are the best we’ve ever had.

This place has been a family favorite since I was a child. The huge egg rolls used to the go yo egg rolls in town. Unfortunately now, this restaurant has new owners and the eggrolls are not coming along now. On top of that, I was charged a full entree today of chicken and brocoli that was supposed to come with a side of white rice that I did not get. I also ordered a shrimp fried rice order only to get the specialty rice that comes with pork in it. I do not eat pork. Portions are also a lot smaller now compared to before. Overall not impressed with my new order placed today under new management. Sucks to hear the original owners and family will no longer be running the restaurant. May need to find a new location for Chinese food now.

Epic fail! I remember meeting the young lady that took over from the family after they retired. Her words to me was she wanted to continue the family's legacy as much as she could. This was my second time since her take over that I've dined here and it will be my last. Sad to say this after dining with the family for 35 years. Nothing tastes the same, not even the BBQ sauce. They use to have the best egg rolls around but not anymore. Food was very close to fast food and very unimpressive. Will not be back. A sad day to me with all my years of coming here. Certainly miss the Sylvia and Tom days.

Been going there since it opened. Live out of state now and came back to go to the restaurant. Was the only customer in there. Took 30 minutes to get a glass of water. And over an hour for food. All the food tasted different. Terrible service. Strong oder of someone smoking weed. Miss the old staff and food

Ate at the jade palace frequently before Covid, the food excellent and services awesome. You are given huge potions of food. Always had to take home leftovers.
Moved to another city for 4 years came back to Humble. Went to eat there just recently and on a Saturday. Only 3 vehicles in the parking lot. Was very surprised about that.
Went inside, all new faces! Asked about the ladies waitresses that used to work there.
Young girl says we have a new staff.
Only one other couple was inside the restaurant. My sister and I ordered the general chicken, egg rolls, fried rice and I ordered the won ton soup. The same thing that I always get. Never again. The soup was store brought instead of home made. The rice was in a small bowl instead of a large bowl, the chicken was not chicken, taste more like pork? Egg rolls overcooked.
Needless to say, we paid and left our plates barely touch. So disappointing, the place will soon go out of business.

I have been coming here for 41 years. The food is fresh and yummy, but they have had the same decor ALWAYS. They could use an update.

Update May 2025
NO, NO, NO!! We walked in and noticed all new faces... OK. But then we were told the owners had passed the restaurant down a couple of generations...OK. For 47 years, I have only ordered one entree. My favorite, my craving, the one thing I have driven 100 miles for, Cantonese Chow Mein. It came to the table, and I didn't recognize it. It was full of veggies it never had before, the sauce was really dark, sweet and thick, it didn't smell the same. I felt horrible and picked out bell pepper, corn, carrots, huge onions (all raw), and called over my waitress. She was super sweet and apologetic. Apparently, the new cook was revising the recipes. I'm not opposed to changing with the times, but let's be honest, we (all customers that have been eating there for decades), don't go for the decor, location, outdated bathrooms. We go for the food, for the childhood memories it brings back, and the consistency they've ALWAYS had. The memories of after church lunches with my grandmother, birthday celebrations with my aunt, and making fun of my brother for always ordering a burger. I'm so disappointed, and if this experimentation continues, I'll never go back. It's sad, but after seeing the full plates left on other tables and food being returned to the kitchen, I know I'm not the only one.

Had the curry chicken. It was very good. The waitress was very kind.

So I decided to try this place out on my lunch break was disappointed that I had to order everything separate because they couldn’t change the fried rice which came with the meal to a shrimp fried rice. Received the shrimp fried rice and it looked good but taste horrible, taste like it was cooked in a skillet that was burned on the bottom I couldn’t eat any of it because of the scorched taste. Waste of money. Gave 3 stars because the guy was friendly upset I paid $42 for a meal where I couldn’t even stomach the rice.

Had the same great experience that I usually have. Loved that it was kept in the family. I enjoyed the Mongolia beef. Egg rolls still huge.
