Ahhh-making tacos! Visited after spending much of the morning-midday at the Galleria. We were starving! Very cheap, good quality. I had the Barbacoa flour tacos & fajita beef quesadilla. Absolutely superb. No Tex-mex like you get at other places. This spot is authentic. A little heavy handed on the cilantro, but the sauce and flavor is unreal.
So it’s a beat up food truck literally in a strip-mall parking lot on the side of Alabama. Go figure. The choices are flour or corn tortillas....then pick your meat fillings. Veggie tacos, too, if you like. We’ve been going here for years making an annual pilgrimage from Seattle. This place is truly special. And to think....it all started by some kind man working @ Whole Foods telling us about this amazing taco truck place! Run. Don’t walk. It’s worth your time.
Our niece lives in Houston and this is was THE place she wanted to take us. It is a food truck, so I wasn't expecting much, but these were HANDS DOWN the best tacos I've ever had. I started with two, one chicken and one vegetarian - but they are small, so I promptly went back and got four more! The chicken taco is simple but oh so flavorful and my only regret is we didn't have an opportunity to go back and try the breakfast tacos the next morning before we left. Next time!
They are tiny but amazing!!! Order 4 tacos or more at LEAST! They are 2 bites each. But goodness gracious they are delicious and I went back for seconds for sure. Not too long of a wait, and totally manageable price.
It's amazingly simple - tortilla, meat, a little onion and coriander/cilantro and BANG you have the best taco you've ever had. Try them all!
These tacos are uh-maze-ing. And, IMHO, the quesadillas are the very best I've ever eaten. I don't know what kind of cheese they're using in them, but it's incredible. If I could only eat one food for the rest of my life, their quesadillas would be in the running. The food in fresh, the purveyors are great people, and this is as good and down-to-Earth as it gets. A slice of heaven in Houston.
When in Houston, you must eat tacos and if you eat tacos you must go to Tacos Tierra Caliente! These tacos are authentic, cheap, and delicious. I always go for the barbacoa and lengua but I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. The homemade red and green salsas pack a nice punch as well.
This truck has awesome tacos for really cheap. Get the pastor or the barbacoa on corn. She'll ask if you want cebollas or cilantro. Know this: answering no to onions means no chopped, raw, white onion on top but some of the meat fillings include stewed onions. Tacos are small and CHEAP so consider getting several per person. Cash-only operation. She doesn't sell drinks, probably to keep peace with convenience store 10 feet away. Best thing to do is to either (1) take your tacos across the street to West Alabama Ice House or else (2) grab some drinks from the convenience store and scoot. I worried that she would raise her prices after Texas Monthly recommended her truck but so far, so good!
I saw a fellow foodie post about this truck on Instagram. Since I happened to be in town, I went. Soooo worth it! Know that it's cash only (tacos are $2 each, so good for the wallet!) and the tacos are small, but filling if you get 3-4. There are not tables at the truck, but right across the street is the West Alabama Ice House where you can grab a picnic table and get some drinks to accompany your delicious meal. Make the trip when you're in town!
This is the first time I've ever had tacos, or anything, from a food truck and what a great meal I had. I was in Houston for medical appointments and decided to take to friends to dinner. I let them select where to go and they suggested tacos from Tierra Caliente. For a small truck they produce big flavors. I had the chicharron , chicken and beef tacos. I don't know what they used on the meat but the tacos were fantastic. The chicharron taco was nothing but pork fatty goodness. The chicken and beef were outstanding too loaded with meat, cilantro and lime topped everything off. It was so good I even went back for a beef quesadilla. And if you want to start sweating use the red sauce it is out of this world. There was a mix-up in the order however that does not in any shape or form take away from the Fantastic food they put out

In a town of food trucks and the newest, best food Tierra Caliente is a solid bet of real, tasty and inexpensive food. The place is steadily busy. My favorite item is anything with steak fajita. The chicken isn't fajita so non-lovers of dark meat chicken beware! The red salsa is burning hot and delicious.
This was my first time eating from a taco truck and I must say they had the best tacos ever, far better than restaurant tacos. I had the fajita taco with cilantro it had a good amount of meat and taste great. I also had the veggie taco it was simply delicious. The only thing I would do differently is add cheese to the fajita taco. To top it off the price is great!
This is the typical taco place that you get when you visit the real mexico, they give you lemon to enjoy with your tacos and they have this green salsa that is delicious. Go visit these guys and try the authentic Mexican tacos for once and for all. you will get addicted to them. gets A+++
These are real tacos. Period. Incredibly fresh, wonderfully flavored, lightning fast. I had barbacoa, pastor, and pollo (barbacoa is my favorite, but it was a very tough choice). The green sauce is incredible (I wanted to drink it...). And they give you plenty of fresh lime to drench it. In short, these folks know tacos. Parking is a small challenge. We parked around the block and walked. Well worth it.
Everybody reviews Tacos Tierra Caliente, and everybody gives it 5 stars. "Best tacos in Houston, judged a recent newspaper review. The food is simple and perfect. The service is pleasant and almost instantaneous. It's in our neighborhood and for the past 7 years, we've gone many times, and have invariably been happy. Come on, you might say - how can they screw up tacos and tortas? That's my point: they never do. The food is always perfect, and perfectly priced and served. And there's outdoor dining and a great selection of cold beer.
