I worked here as a host, and while I had high hopes going in, my experience was disappointing. I made a couple of small, honest mistakes (which is normal for someone new and still learning), but instead of receiving support or guidance, I was gossiped about by staff and publicly humiliated. One server in particular made it her mission to tear me down, spreading negativity to the entire team. I was 17, trying my best — instead of understanding, I was met with rudeness, immaturity, and zero professionalism.
There is a clear lack of respect among certain staff members, and a toxic culture where mistakes are weaponized rather than used as learning moments. I also witnessed inappropriate workplace behavior, including unprofessional conversations and dishonesty among employees. Not a healthy or supportive place to grow in hospitality.
To future workers: If you’re young or just starting out, be prepared to deal with a work environment that doesn’t always foster learning or respect.
I've been coming to Atami for over six years now, and it continues to be one of my favorite spots. The service has always been consistently great, and I truly appreciate how well they take care of their guests. I'm especially a fan of their Lycheetini martini--so refreshing and delicious! Their appetizers are always on point (Crab Puffs a fave), and while I didn't snap a photo of it, the roll I had this time was just as tasty as ever. They also offer hibachi, which is a fun option if you're in the mood for a more interactive dining experience and with friends + fam. All around, a solid go-to for great food and good vibes. They are also on DoorDash!
The food is good but Horrible service. There was no one waiting and only 2 tables sitting down( 1 person by themselves and a table of 4) when we walked in. They should of been glad to get some business. They make you feel like it’s a problem when you walk in. The point of a restaurant is to have people come in to eat. Then they have extremely rude staff especially the older lady who seats people. Go to Shogun their staff is very friendly. Not worth the hassle.
One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this place absolutely deserves it. We were the only customers in the restaurant, yet we waited over 30 minutes just for the cook to even start preparing our food. With no one else around, there was zero excuse for the delay—and the service throughout was inattentive and uninterested.
To make things worse, they actually tried to charge us $5 just because I wanted to give some of my leftover food to my mom. Never experienced anything like that before. Completely ridiculous policy.
And the food? For a $150 bill, you’d expect something at least memorable. Instead, it was painfully average—bland, poorly presented, and absolutely not worth the price tag. Filet mignon was not fresh. To top it off, they added gratuity to our bill even though there was only 5 of us. Their policy says 6 and up but yet they stilled charged us (we tired to argue it but after arguing for over 30 minutes we gave up, our Mother's Day dinner was already ruined)
There are too many great restaurants out there to waste time or money here. I would not recommend this place to anyone
Food was okay they burned my steak. Refills were very slow and service was very slow. We had only 5 people and we got also hit with a automatic gratuity. Came here last year and was a way better experience but this just made it way worse never coming again
Came here for my wife's birthday ordered 3 hibachi specials and they refused to make it said we needed to make 4 then the manager said we needed to order 6 and gave us very big attitude and the skinny white guy wanted to fight with my wife and I had to put my self in between and use my size to calm the situation they spit on out feet and still had the audacity to ask for there tip I was there with 6 adults and 5 kids
Very rude and disrespectful soda was flat We asked to get another something different. That was very rude.
About it and we had to order an adult hibachi for the kids forcing us to order what they wanted us to order do not come here
Be aware food was terrible
The best Japanese restaurant in Houston!

Ordered two hibachi meals, chicken and steak for $50, the portions were so small!! And the yum yum sauce they gave us was chunky and tasted like straight PLASTIC, ruined my meal immediately. That is NOT yum yum sauce. Made us incredibly sick. I had high hopes because this place was a 4 star somehow?? Food is not worth the price. What a waste of money.
