Brett’s Bbq shop was a mixed Experience at a Recognized BBQ joint. We visited a Texas Monthly Top 100 BBQ award winner, a spot that previously held a Top 50 ranking. The restaurant itself was quite inviting, with a clean and well-maintained indoor seating area and a convenient beer and cocktail bar right next door.
The lean brisket had a solid salt and pepper bark with good flavor, but I found the meat itself to be a little chewy. The ribs were a bit inconsistent; some parts were flavorful, while others were a bit mushy and salty. The texture was uneven throughout. The sausage was a house-made, peppery link with a tight casing. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't my favorite offering.
On a more positive note, the sides were a definite highlight. The corn casserole was very good, with a nice balance between the corn and the breading. The cilantro coleslaw was a refreshing change, a light vinegar slaw with a great cilantro spice. It was packed with fresh carrots, red peppers, and onions, making it a delicious and flavorful side.
Overall, while there were some inconsistencies with the meat, the inviting atmosphere and excellent sides made for a decent experience.

Tried to order a 2 meat plate, beef and ribs. Ribs aren't available for a 2 meat plate. Walked out.
The food is great and actually one of our favorites in the area. The service is disappointing every single time (in-person, over the phone). Their menu is unclear and quite confusing but do yourself a favor and don’t bother asking questions because you will most certainly be met with distain. Also do not even try to order ahead over the phone for pick-up because “We don’t do that… k…bye.”

Came in one evening for some BBQ chicken… they were out of BBQ chicken. Dang it.
Everything we had was still good. Brisket was great, sausage had great flavor but an oddly gritty texture, and the real highlight for me was their cilantro slaw. So dang good. Also the jalapeños didn’t feel like some regular-degular canned ones. They had cumin and other spices in the brine, and that was a nice touch.
There’s also a bar section that seemed to be pretty popular, and most of the folks there didn’t seem to be eating, so the vibe felt kinda mixed between a bar and a BBQ spot.
Despite not having what we came for, it was pretty good. I’d try it again and order a 5 gal bucket of that slaw.

Did not go here.
Man, hands down the best BBQ food I’ve had in Houston. The truth!!
I forgot my bbq but I’m not even mad because there’s just so much flavor packed into the meat. It’s so tender and I’m so happy I was able to catch them tonight. Large portion sizes, and it makes every penny worth it.
Highly recommended!!

I tried this BBQ spot and overall had a good experience. We ordered the brisket, flash-fried burnt ends, and mac and cheese.
The brisket was solid — the bark had a great flavor, but the meat itself felt like it was missing a little something. Not bad at all, just not as memorable as I was hoping. The mac and cheese was decent as well; nothing wrong with it, but nothing that stood out either.
The star of the meal, though, was the flash-fried burnt ends. I’d go back just for those alone — they were outstanding in that salsa that they put on them.
The staff really added to the experience. They were exceptional, kind, and genuinely friendly, which made the visit even better. The restaurant itself was very clean, with a pleasing southern-inspired aesthetic. The only small note is that the lighting felt more like a fine dining setting, when I personally would have preferred the warm, homey brightness that fits a BBQ joint.
Overall, a solid BBQ spot with excellent service and atmosphere.

Before Brett's, BBQ was ok and a take it or leave it meal option. Brett's is a sample of what awaits us in heaven. Every single bite of meat melts in your mouth. Homemade sides crafted with love and seasoning guided by the ancestors. I have yet to eat food here that was less than a 10. You will never go hungry eating here.

Great barbecue! This place is great if I need bbq in Katy - the best in the area. Won’t top the usual suspects in Houston but still very solid with some unique sides. Environment is nice, new, and clean. Full bar if you’re into that but usually grab a fancy lemonade next door

Burnt bits brisket brought me here. When I tried t order it the girl told me she couldn’t sell me it???? Yet, others have ordered it and mentioned it in their reviews. It’s also on the menu online when I look them up. No online ordering. Brisket was dry and not flavorful almost like eating bbq out side of Texas. Disappointed.
