I really wanted to like this place. In fact I did like this place the first time I went. Then I went a second time and got my order to go. This time I ordered the sancocho, the chicharrón de pollo with arroz y habichuelas and the churrasco steak with fries and a salad. Here’s where they went wrong:
The rice was hard & undercooked and it was not con con. There were about 12 beans in the container and the rest was all watery bean sauce.
The churrasco claims to be 12 oz, it was 3 oz THE MOST. This steak was the size of my palm and I have small hands. The sancocho just tastes like beef soup. It was not at all what I’ve ever had in NYC or in DR or ever.
The chicken was flavorful and that’s it. Mind you, this whole meal was $70!!
I was extremely disappointed as I haven’t found a Dominican restaurant I love since moving from NYC 4 yrs ago and I thought I found it but clearly I did not. I can’t come back knowing that I’m not actually getting what I’m lead to believe that I’m paying for.
I have NO PROBLEM paying any amount for great food, which is why I didn’t say a word when she told me it was $70 but I was upset when I got home and the food was not up to par.

The service was really great and they were so accommodating with me being vegan. They did mess up on one dish but remade it quite quickly. The atmosphere was nice, we sat outside and it was a nice evening. Inside felt a little loud with the music but nonetheless nice spot.

This was my first time eating Dominican food and being to a Dominican restaurant. I think she was the owner but she served me and she was amazing. She told me about the Dominican beer they had which was good and she explained the food that I picked. She also told me about other events that they have. You have to go here. I'll be going back.

Monarca Bar & Grill by Mi Patio is the only spot in Katy serving truly authentic Dominican cuisine. From the warm hospitality from Nicole and Alejandra to the beautifully plated dishes like El Mofongo Samana or a street style Picalonga, everything is made with love and full of flavor. If you’re craving real Dominican food, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Started off with some delicious empanadas that were perfectly crisp and flavorful. I had the churrasco steak cooked just the way I like it , tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The restaurant itself had a cozy, welcoming vibe, and our waiter was both friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Honestly, I don’t think I could’ve asked for a better dining experience.

Restaurantji Recommends
When there for Sunday dinner, and upon arrival, it seemed small but very welcoming, and the ambience was okay; however, they had extremely loud live music with drums and a DJ. It was extremely loud, but maybe that’s normal for the culture but definitely wouldn’t recommend long-term exposure to the amount of decibels. However, we decided not to stay because the menu prices were deceiving, as they were higher than listed, and the staff made no attempt to explain that, and the only reason we figured it out was by looking at the digital tab to make a selection. Some of the prices were as high as an additional $5. Maybe I will give it another try once they correct the menu prices.
Very tasty pineapple margaritas are super delicious. Great ambience and excellent service

Monarca is Dominican flavor at its best!
The food is authentic and delicious—mangú, mofongo, chicharrón, you name it! The drinks are strong and tropical, and the vibes are always on point.
They host fun events with live music and great energy that celebrate Caribbean culture. The staff is super friendly and makes you feel right at home.
Highly recommend for amazing food, drinks, and puro sabor dominicano! 🇩🇴
