This used to be my favorite place to get Suya but the quality and service has severely declined even though the prices have increased. Today we placed an order for 2 beef Suya and asked to see the food before purchasing to ensure freshness. They refused. We paid for the order and sure enough the Suya was not hot or fresh. We will not be returning.

I never thought I would be writing a negative review for this place but after what just happened, I will not be coming back to this place as there are over better and cheaper suya places near me.
The situation is brought on by the fact that I was attempting to order with a promo door dash gave me for ordering from this particular place for a while now, and as I attempted to use it to essentially order for nearly less than I normally would've paid my order was cancelled. As I called to inquire why, I was told it's because I was using a promo code which made me spend next to nothing for 1 shawarma. So i thought to try again and add a plate of suya which brought my total up to $20, not bad I thought as I would be saving money but they would also be getting money. Apparently they didn't agree as my order was then cancelled again and I am still awaiting my refund from them.
The point of my review is to warn other people of the insane action just because I was using a promo code rewarded to me by door dash for supporting this business by spending a lot on them just for them to turn around and halt me from even being able to use it. Be careful where you spend your money.

As a native New Yorker, I was excited to try some suya in Texas; and this place did not fail. The suya was really good and the price for the portion was excellent. The quantity of suya we received would have cost at least double in NYC lol. The beef shawarma was exquisite, my husband and I were shocked with how good it tasted. Very well seasoned and full of suya.
Anytime we visit Houston we will definitely return here.
Also the staff was very accommodating with changing my order after I made a mistake

Today, I came to Suya On The Spot excited to finally find African food near my home. I ordered the jollof rice with turkey. The rice was fresh and flavorful — definitely the highlight of the meal.
Unfortunately, the turkey was extremely tough — I couldn’t even cut it with a fork. I had noticed earlier that the meat appeared pre-cooked and asked if it would be fresh. I was told it would be, but that wasn’t the case.
I called to express my dissatisfaction and was told I could bring the turkey back and they’d substitute it with chicken. When I returned, a woman with gold or silver teeth asked what was wrong with it, and as I began to explain, she rolled her eyes and dismissed me mid-sentence. Her attitude was unwelcoming and rude.
I wasn’t asking for an upgrade or a refund — just a simple swap to something even less expensive. But the lack of courtesy and professionalism really turned me off.
As a Black woman, I was genuinely hoping to support a Black-owned business, but this kind of experience is exactly what discourages repeat visits. The food had potential, but the poor customer service overshadowed everything else. I won’t be returning. I’m

Mehn… as one who has tasted her Suya before, I’m utterly disappointed in what the Suya is now, before giving this review I made sure to try it 3 times consecutively this week and $15 Suya nice portion but the part of beef used isn’t the usual Suya she use to sell, it seems she went to get the regular beef part used for stew with no taste and was cut real thick and chunky and tasted more like stewed beef with sprinkle of suya pepper. She used to be really good but having tried 3 times this week, it’s a firm NO for me. Please get the former cook or style back. I will still patronize her cos I love my KUNU but until I see an improvement, I’ll pass on the Suya! Quality over quantity ☮️✌🏽❤️
