Make sure the french fries are fresh.

Now i tried the fried chicken.....excellent! I like it better than the old chicken. This place has had a series of owners recently, but now it is in good hands! Also open 6 days, including Monday, and now takes credit cards. It is definitely NOT closed!

It really looks like a little white box when you drive past it. "Sidney's" Gold n Crisp Fried Chicken was a landmark! The best bird around; hands down. Family owned and operated for almost fifty years. The new owner has some big shoes to fill. That being said... My go to order was always the Giant Cheeseburger. Flame grilled burger with cheddar cheese. I placed my usual order, and was surprised when I opened my burger to find two half pound patties between the buns! Way to establish yourself in your new business! I will be back!

Went by this 12/14/19 and they were CLOSED with a sign saying For Rent. Sorry kids, for at least now this place is gone.....

A group of seven just ate lunch there today and it was great. Chicken was crispy and juicy and the new owners are really friendly. One guy had the burger and said it was fantastic as well. Another guy had the chicken sandwich and loved it!

Place isn't the same since it sold. Chickens not crispy and service is t friendly anymore. It's sad.

This used to be my go to place. The new owners have changed things and it's not the same as it used to be. The Cole slaw used to be my favorite, but they have changed the recipe and it is watered down and has NO flavor. It doesn't taste fresh either. The chicken has no seasoning and is super greasy and it tastes as though it has been fried in old grease. They need to go back to the way it was. Why change things when it was working fine the way it was. Sometimes cutting cost to save a little isn't the best idea. They get 2 stars instead of 1 because I like the addition of the fried okra and they now take credit cards.

Gold n Crisp has new owners. Not good. The phone is usually off the hook. We always went for the fabulous chicken...it isn't so fabulous now. The service isn't so friendly.

As others have noted, the local nickname for it is Whitebox. As a self appointed authority on fried chicken (re: my blog - the fried chicken blog at blogspot dot com), I found the chicken to be excellent and worth a side trip into La Grange if you are on 71 heading toward Houston or Austin. I loved it.

Gold n' Crisp, (locally nicknamed Whitebox) is easily one of the best places to eat in Fayette county for a home cooked meal! The friend chicken here is made hot and fresh, and tastes just the way my great grandmother would make it growing up. Although the service is not the quickest, it is worth it for the quality of the food made to order. I have been eating here since before I even moved to this town because we had to stop every time we drove through because it is so delicious. The burgers are also great too, but the fried chicken is a MUST! The French fries are also delicious and I love how they cook them hot, and add a packet of salt inside in order to let you salt them to your liking. SIDENOTE: they do not take credit cards!

Best fried chicken in the Fayette County. I wasn't sure if they'd have chicken tenders but they do and they are awesome! Gravy is on point. If you like no-frill, local, "greasy-spoon" type eateries, you will love this place. I came during lunch hours and it was constantly busy... that's a good sign!! It's not the fastest service in the world but it's worth the 10-15 minute wait. They don't accept cards, so bring cash or checks.

For the people who feels this establishment has the best fried chicken in Texas, or the best fried chicken that money can buy, I beg to differ. I will not go into details, however I can name at least 20 places that I would rather eat. The sign says best in Fayette County and since I have not eaten at any other chicken place in Fayette County this might be true. Just not my taste.

Great fried chicken. It is cash only so be mindful of that. Great stop on the way to Austin from Houston

From the looks of the place, my wife and I were not expecting anything special. What we got was some of the best fried chicken we have ever had. Beats the chain places by a mile.

Greasy, I won't go back. A little further down the road is Golden Chick which has excellent fried chicken.
