Great service and the food was good. We had skillett fryed fajita for lunch price. Unfortunately we found out that they are going out of business at the end of the year. They were bought out :( ?
Cavendars had so many options but no they got in with the mall and are causing El Chico to close their location. I promise I will never set foot in Cavendars when they open and I am done with Brazos Mall too. I was diagnosed with Celiac disease in 1997 and El Chico was the only restaurant i felt comfortable eating at. I along with Sharon Jepson started the Celiac Support group in 1998 El Chico went over and above to accommodate our needs. Removing Wheat, Rye, and Barley from one’s diet 33 years ago was extremely difficult but El Chico was there. Even going as far as to change their Spanish rice so the Support Group could have an annual dinner there. Those dinners made the group members feel like normal people we were happy and treated so well by Bruce and his staf. The staff was educated on the Gluten Free diet. The Gluten Free diet was our only medicine and still is. Being able to go out to eat back then was like being invited to a presidential inaugural ball for us. The management worked with us to create a Gluten free menu. In 1998 99” 2000 and so on this was a big deal no one had a gluten free menu. I even had waitstaff at another restaurant laugh at me because I questioned her about their food. At that time I was a 5’7” woman who weighed 83 pounds food with Gluten in. It ravaged my body for 14 years before my Condition was diagnosed. I was close to death and my immune system that now , 26 years later I still have a multitude of conditions that were caused by this Disease. El Chico made me feel normal and was the only restaurant I could eat at without fear of becoming deathly Ill . To this day El Chico is a special place for me and many others. I am honestly devastated that BrazosMall would throw out this special restaurant out,not just out of their mall for a store who had many options. Thanks Brazos mall for throwing out a historical place in BrazoriaCounty. I urge people to show your opinion with your feet and stay away from Cavendars and Brazos Mall. A reduction in the all mighty dollar is the only thing Brazos Mall would respond to. No More Mall!
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free food is the only medicine for Celiac disease and the Gluten Intolerant El Chico was our safe place and we knew we wouldn’t get sick if you talked to the waitstaff about your condition . Every time we are there the Managers would check to make sure there were no mistakes that would make us sick.
I have been eating at different El Chico restaurants for 65 plus years. The El Chico Restaurant in Lake Jackson is absolutely the best restaurant I have ever eaten in! Bruce, the manager, is beyond tremendous. I have moved to Colorado Springs about 8 years ago and The El Chico Restaurant is what I miss the most about moving. I would give a lot if Colorado Springs had an El Chico Restaurant with Bruce as manager. I was shocked when I heard, yes … all the way up here, that Brazos Mall had given The El Chico spot to Cavenders Western Store. My first thought was that the mall leadership did not realize that they were messing with a legendary restaurant in Lake Jackson! I also wondered why Cavenders would risk loosing so much business to a great population of El Chico supporters. Bruce, you are the finest manager I have ever known in 73 years of living! You deserved better than this. Come to Colorado Springs and start an El Chico Restaurant!!
I first went to an El Chico when I was a kid in the 1970s. It was one of the early Mexican food chain. For many years it defined what I thought Mexican food should taste like. I went to this El Chico somewhat out of nostalgia. While there are now many other styles to choose from, eating here brought back the taste memory of my youth and I loved it! I got the "South of the Border Combo" which includes a beef enchilada, chicken enchilada and chicken taco. I enjoyed every item.
This restaurant is always clean and has good staff. I was very disappointed to read that the mall is not renewing their lease. I hope they can find a new location quickly.
Had the best lunch with my sister and son, I absolutely love the cheese enchiladas paired with a fresh sweet tea. The environment is always kid friendly and the staff is beyond helpful and so sweet. I highly recommend having lunch or dinner at El Chico with your family.
Quality of food and staff has been on a steady decline since Covid. Today we were sat in an overcrowded room with a noisy party when there was plenty of room in the rest of the establishment. My son's quesadilla was only 1/2 covered in meat, the top shelf guacamole was not mixed thoroughly by our waitress. When I asked for the manager, a cook came out and did absolutely NOTHING. We have been going to this restaurant for 14 years and will discontinue our service here. The lack of customer service with the declining food quality causes me to say "enough is enough".-after speaking with management over this issue...will definitely NOT return.
Had three cheese enchiladas, rice, beans, a tequila sunrise, and chips and salsa. The tequila sunrise was ok, probably would have been better if I ordered a different tequila instead of the cheap stuff. Cheese enchiladas were a bit spicy, but I don't tolerate spice too well. Everything else was spot on! Staff was super friendly too, which is always a plus and a factor if I return at a restaurant again. Would eat here again.
I usually get there fajitas I love the beef they use a good cut of beef it has a great taste. And the red sauce is pretty great too. The service is always fast and friendly. I have only run across a few bad waiters or waitress but they never last.
Wife and I were in Lake Jackson today so we stopped and had lunch. Food was good for the price and our server, Brianna, was so friendly and attentive to our needs. Thank you Brianna

Nice quiet place, good food, and their prices are extremely affordable. I expected to pay way more than I expected, and I got surprised... I've been here several times.
Food was nothing special. I haven't been in years but from what I remember food was much better then. Waitress was nice and attentive.
Wow... what a disappointment... grew up eating ElChico...I don't know if food quality got worse or my taste improved. Seems like one step above frozen tv dinner. Started with 3 for 2 meal.... ordered Chicken Jalapeño poppers... its some weird mush of chicken and Jalapeño....odd thing is you're sharing so the amount.. in my mind should be 2 equal portions, but no its 5 poppers.Think some of it is microwaved and out of a can. Enchilada sauce I think comes from a can you can buy at the store..Plate was too hot to touch but food was luke warm....Service was great....
I signed up for their newsletter/promotions emails and was nicely rewarded with a BOGO entree offer. That made me excited to go and see if I could find a new favorite dish!Unfortunately even at half the normal price this restaurant is a one and done for me. Truly have never had worse Mexican. Low quality, ultra small portions (except the bag of chips that came with my to go order) AND NO FLAVOR! Salsa appeared like it came out of a can and was watered down but at least they chopped up some fresh onion and jalapenos to put in it.Have a look at the photo. You can count about 5 tiny pieces of diced tomato and the 2 pretend burritos that were the size of a McDonald's breakfast burritos had almost no meat and literally nothing more inside. The cheese sauce didn't taste like cheese and sour cream sauce and taste like sour cream. It was a to go order and only took me 7 minutes to get it home but it was cold. Not even a sign it was ever hot, like steam or water on the plastic. So rather than eat it cold I zapped it in the microwave. Definitely not a $15 per entree value. The other entree was shrimp tacos. The shrimp was tasty but because everything was cold and I stuck it in the microwave for a little over 30 seconds the taco shells turned so chewy that they were barely chewable.
my boyfriend recently started working here, in which we are a very young couple struggling with money I would come in ALONE to come visit my boyfriend at work and eat some food after a long day of working myself , I can’t even walk in without Mr.Bruce the manager giving me dirty looks and complaining about me being there to the workers in which I would constantly hear being talked about. I was not able to physically eat my food because it makes me sick to my stomach that someone would be so insensitive and rude to someone that they do not know. DO BETTER! OTHER THAN THAT SERVICE WAS AMAZING! The workers and food are great.
