Came for the bacon wrapped burrito. But was blown away by the chicken soup (caldo de pollo) and the Tampiquena Plate. The soup is award winning (in my mind). The Tampiquena was phenomenal and left me with lots of leftovers to take home. You won’t be disappointed. For those looking for gluten free, I’m not sure they have a dedicated fryer for the chips. The server helped me to easily navigate the menu to find something that would work.. also, the freshly made corn tortillas are amazing.

Server was absolutely lovely, really friendly and happy to explain what some of the menu items were and the specials for the night, happy to explain what beers were available on draft, amazing food, fresh, vibrant and delicious. Service very friendly and smiling, being from the UK the authentic Mexican food was to die for and I felt so welcome. Thank you for the service (the 4 Brits)

Outstanding tacos. I got the Carne Asada and they were so good I ordered another one! The staff doesn't really speak English much but that actually adds to its authenticity. Would definitely recommend!

I went with my boyfriend (not Mexican) and they treated us horribly. We had to constantly repeat our order and even then they got our order wrong. We ordered hot tea and were given it cold. We advised our waiter and she went to get hot water, but didn’t bring a new cup. She then brought a new cup but it was chipped. The entire time we were there we were being stared at and it made us feel very uncomfortable. This place is not diverse friendly and will not be returning again.
Unfortunately, my experience wasn’t great, particularly with the food. It was very ordinary something I could easily make at home. The taste just wasn’t there for me, and considering the price, I expected much better quality. It felt overpriced for what I received. When I went inside to order, I let the cashier know it was my first time and that I wasn’t familiar with the menu. Unfortunately, she wasn’t very helpful and seemed rushed. However, one employee behind her noticed I was struggling and stepped in to assist, which I really appreciated. When it was time to pick up my food, the same cashier prioritized taking new orders while my food sat there ready, which made the service feel inattentive. Sadly, I wasn’t a fan of the food’s taste either. I’ve been to other restaurants in the area, like Danny’s, where the food quality and service were much better. I really hope they can make some improvements.

Parking: This new EL Venado restaurant is now located in front of Marshall’s on San Dario (north Laredo) . It has been in business for over 20 years and is originally from Nuevo Laredo Mexico. If you haven’t tried their food stop by and see for yourself the variety of delicious dishes that are popular and always available!!!
