Stubbs was quite the character! I’m pretty sure I was brought up on puréed brisket with jalapeños and Hot BBQ Sauce ??? when I was older I worked at a Salvage Wrecking Yard just up the road from Stubbs , every Saturday the boss man would send me to pick up food from stubs ! Always 10 lbs of each meat and all the fixings! When we had a Christmas Party at the wrecking yard Stubs and his brother in law Troy Johnson came out and started the magical touch and rub by 3:00 that afternoon the party started whether you were there or not ! I have a chopping block that was given to my dad many years ago it’s in my garage covered up and sometimes I swear I can hear tapping sounds ! With a rhythm I started calling it the chopping block buggy ??? I will never forget Mr Stubafield ???

If you know Stubb's, you know great bbq! When this memorial was built, there was a discussion to place it in a more "likeable" area instead of the original location. I'm glad they placed the memorial on the foundation of the original restaurant so you can get a feel for the area (which I grew up in and still live in), and you can imagine the vibes that this place once held. Imagine a Sunday jam session with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Willie Nelson, BB King, Tom T. Hall, Johnny Cash, and Muddy Waters in this 75 person capacity building!

What a great monument for an institution in Lubbock! I love how there were markers showing where everything in the restaurant stood.

Nicely done open air park celebrating a significant chapter of Texas music history.
