This hotel far exceeded our expectations, everything from the remarkable staff to the detail of the hotel itself, the bar, outside areas, and ambience. Even the little things like the quality of the rooms (mattress, blankets, decor) even the bathroom sink and shower is beautiful! The food we ordered from the bar was delicious (crab cakes were scrumptious) and cocktails top-notch. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We talked about being on a road trip and the staff gave us some awesome pointers and suggestions, and the hotel guests sitting beside us joined in the conversation and we talked about the history of the hotel and things to do in the area for 2 hours! What an amazing experience. Thank you to the owners for making such an incredible investment and to those (staff) who make it successful. I certainly hope we find our way back here someday! Anyone who gives it less than 5 stars probably can’t be made happy anyway. This is an absolute gem.

Incredible atmosphere and dining experience that is all around charming and delicious! I surprised my husband with our news that we were pregnant here just a few weeks ago, and the staff was so kind and overjoyed along with us. The chef and server thoughtfully created a special dessert for us to say “congrats” with a pink and blue candle. We enjoyed every bite and was an unforgettable night for so many reasons…. THANK YOU so much! We will definitely be back and always hold these memories dear! ?

Server and location/ decor are great. We love the gage, so disappointed in the food this time: crab cakes were cold in the center and the steak was overdone. Maybe just do the bar next time?

We had a lovely time at the 12 Gage Restaurant. Adrian is a wonderful server. The quail appetizer was good. Steak frites: also good. Rack of lamb was wonderful. I really enjoyed the Texas Old Fashioned and the “dessert” Carajillo. It was quiet and quite pleasant. Of course, it’s just a short walk from The Gage hotel (or any where in Marathon). Pretty sure we will be back.

Update: May 2024 This time we did make a reservation. Food and service were exceptional. I highly recommend the Squash steak. Never had anything like it. The risotto was the perfect compliment to this purely delicious meal.

Best meal I have had in Texas. Servers prompt and helpful. Salmon was THE best ever. Top marks for the Peruvian chef. I am a bread-aholic and the Focaccia was a refreshing change to the regular non bread.

I can confidently say that this is the BEST restaurant in West Texas and even in all of Texas. I will further claim this is the best restaurant I've ever eaten in. From the "Cheer's" atmosphere (where everyone, from the staff and locals, treat you like family) to the amazing food (the Chicken Fried Steak is the size of the dinner plate and is over an inch thick, to the amazing staff (we were lucky enough to have Kurt) this place is pure heaven. I asked my friend if we were in a Twilight Zone episode or had died, because everything was just so perfect. The restaurant also has a separate, but attached bar, where you can either eat or go after the restaurant closes. I can't say enough good things about the 12-Gage. The prices rival the Metroplex, but the food, people and staff make it all worth it. A must stop.
