Great experience overall at Black Bear Diner. The chicken fried steak is easily top 5 in the RGV — crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The pancakes and French toast were delicious, fluffy, and hit the spot. Food came out hot and portions were generous.
The only small hiccup was at the front — the host could use a little more training — but Serena, our waitress, completely made us forget about that. She was attentive, friendly, and provided excellent service. Because of her, the experience ended on a high note. Definitely coming back!

We go to Black Bear Diner every Sunday. My picky 5 year old has several options to choose from. The staff is wonderful. The servers are always attentive, and the food is always on par! The only drawback is that it is so good, everyone wants to eat there. The wait is about 30 minutes, but it is worth it knowing you will always get fresh food and great service!

We ordered the big bear burger only to see it was pink. A burger should always be well done and never pink; it’s not a steak. The fries were soooooo salty my girlfriend had to remove the salt by hand for each fry.
This was my first ever visit at this restaurant and Possibly my last. Sat for almost a hour with no food or drinks even hitting the tables server was not attentive at all she came up once to check up on us immediately after we ordered then didn’t see her for almost 40 min she kept attending her other tables and completely forgot about us. After waiting that long we just left the restaurant walked out no food or drinks just had a water on the table. Decided to go to another restaurant.

This was the worst dining experience I’ve had at Black Bear. I have been here twice, and on this visit we waited over 30 minutes without being served. We were not offered water, and other tables that were seated after us received service before we did. The waiter was inattentive and unprofessional, and the overall service was very poor. This experience was extremely disappointing.

I visited this restaurant recently and was surprised to discover that they intended to charge nearly $29 for a basic breakfast. Considering the quality of the food and the level of service provided, this price appeared excessively high. As a result, I chose to leave immediately. I strongly encourage others to explore alternative establishments, as the overall value offered here is not satisfactory. There are several nearby options that provide significantly better food and service at far more reasonable prices.
