3★ – Almost perfect, with one Huge (and ironic) caveat

Duino is a beautiful spot—inviting, thoughtfully designed, and clearly loved by the team running it. The baristas were friendly, fast, and skilled. We tried the ABLTs (delicious), followed by chocolate and almond croissants that were genuinely outstanding. The seating is varied and comfortable, with plenty of outlets—a fantastic setup for working, studying, or just relaxing with a bite.

But here's the rub—and it's a big one for a coffeehouse: the coffee itself. Specifically, the espresso. Duino uses Eiland’s Espresso Delicato for their shots, and unfortunately, it misses the mark. The roast is extremely dark, past bordering on burnt. Think way darker-than-Starbucks dark. Whatever origin notes were once there are completely lost to overwhelming roast flavors.

Now, I say this not as a casual critic, but as someone who’s owned and operated a successful café and roastery, and helped launch several more. And I want to be clear: this wasn’t a barista issue. The shot was pulled well—no signs of under- or over-extraction or poor water quality and temperature seemed dialed in. The team did the best possible with the beans they had - a hard task for sure.

That’s what makes this a frustrating miss. Duino has all the ingredients of a top-tier café—great food, atmosphere, staff, and service. With a better espresso roast, they could truly crush it. I sincerely hope the owners start exploring other coffee options and begin cupping a replacement. There are so many amazing, well-balanced coffees out there that would elevate the entire experience and match the quality of everything else Duino is doing so well.

Would I come back? YES. Would I order an espresso based drink? Definitely not—until the beans change.

Updated.

Hi Hesham,

Thanks for following up and addressing the issue so quickly. I appreciate the refund and the gesture, it definitely helps make up for what was an otherwise disappointing experience. I respect that you took accountability, and it says a lot about how you run your business.

Best,
Cody

Did not help with a drink that was truly awful, no exchange or a way to fix the drink, was going to charge for a new one after we spent $42 on drinks! I would not recommend to go there under any circumstances!

This was a terrible experience for me and my family. We ordered drinks that were not what we expected and they wouldn’t exchange them for another drink that was the same price. We spent around 40 dollars and bought a bag of coffee and they still wanted us to pay for two more drinks. The workers upfront were not of high spirit and the first time we went up they were rude and the second time around was the same. I do not see how anyone would want to go here if I could give it zero stars I would.

I genuinely love this place. Staff are friendly, and atmosphere is upbeat. The down sides are it can be quite loud if you’re looking for a place to work remote. Also, what you order on the menu may not be what you receive. For example, I was excited to try the garden bowl, but when it arrived it was regular potatoes (not sweet potatoes like their menu image showed). Quite a different flavor experience. They also switch up their sandwich menu frequently and the options are not great, pretty dry with little flavor. The drink options are great though. I think if they improved their food menu options it would be a better experience.

The iced strawberry matcha latte was out of this world! The baristas were the sweetest ever. We will come back soon!

I've been here twice recently for meetings and it's the cutest place. Both times the service was good. All the servers were nice, pleasant and accomodating. I'm sorry that I can't remember all the names, but I remember Grace cause she has the same name as my daughter. She was an absolute gem, as well as the young lady working with her.

Really neat place with a very pleasant and friendly staff. Clean restaurant with plenty of space to meet up with friends; both indoors and outdoors.

I picked out their Turkey and it was just perfect. Along with a mango smoothy which was amazing and the mix latte delicious.

Would stop by again when in the area.

Serve the cappuccino in a cup. I can get a coffee in a takeaway cup from Starbucks.

No drip coffee after noon? Had to opt for an Americano. In a coffee shop I expect drip coffee all day. At the very least they could have offered me a pour over
