We’ve been in McKinney for over a year and a half, and we love Chinese food, so we thought we’d try this place, since it’s super close. We ordered takeout on a Saturday night.

The good:
- Food was ready super fast for pickup. We live 0.7 miles away from Rice Pot, and my husband left as soon as I placed the online order, and he said our bag was packed and waiting off to the side, on the counter, when he arrived! We were happy to find everything was still very hot.

The okay:
- Overall, the food was just okay. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was worth coming back for.
We ordered:
* crab rangoons - we got 4 in an order and saw and tasted ZERO crab! It was just cream cheese in a fried shelling.
* shrimp fried rice - 3/5. The taste was fine, but there were tons of veggies, and not all of them were diced; there were lots of long carrot and onion pieces, which I don’t personally care for.
*General Tso’s chicken - these were actually good, but like the crab rangoons, not what I expected. The chicken was not even a little spicy; no pepper or “kick”, much less spiciness. And because I know restaurants tend to dumb down things labeled as spicy on their menus, I specifically checked the “spicy” option, when ordering, to let the restaurant know to make my order truly spicy. However, given how quickly our entire order was ready, I suspect the restaurant did not make my chicken to order; they likely just used whatever was in the warmers, for the dine in customers.
*Side of lo mein noodles - not good at all. Not gross, but no flavor or seasoning, whatsoever. It was just linguine noodles with a brown looking coating; no one in my household enjoyed these.
*Dragon & Phoenix - the “Phoenix” was pretty good; the Dragon consisted of the driest chicken my husband said he’d ever had.

We spent just under $50 for the above items, including tip; so it wasn’t exactly cheap either.

All in all, this place is worth a shot if you live super close and must have Asian food; it wasn’t for us though.

We ordered takeout a few nights ago and were quite satisfied with everything we got. The menu is mid-sized, but there are a TON of customizations you can make for every dish--well done, extra meat, spice level, added ingredients, etc--and our order was ready super quick! I ordered Szechuan shrimp and it was LOADED with shrimp! We received complementary fried wonton strips with each entrée. The gentleman at the counter also made sure we got our drinks which was very nice.

Ordering through their website gives you a decent discount, to boot, but did take a little getting used to. This place is open a bit later than all the other Chinese restaurants, so I can imagine we'll be ordering here often.

They are the place to get walnut chicken. I tried it while traveling but couldn't find a place around here to get it. I called them and asked if the could make it for me and they were able to accommodate me! Great food and great service!

I ordered orange peel chicken. It was disgusting. It was large chunks of over fried chunks of batter…. No chicken! Never again. Gross

Really like this place. We've never had a bad meal here. Food is hot, fresh, delicious and super fast! Personnel is very nice and always friendly. Kung pao and fried dumplings are very good. Make sure to order the house mustard with spring rolls or crab rangoon...it's excellent for those that love true, hot Asian mustard.
