Before anything—we were hungry and meeting with friends, so it was either this or go home. We didn’t have many options, and Shell Shack was one of the only places open.
We got there around 11 PM on Thursday (they close at 1 AM), and right away, we ran into issues. A sweet lady at the front (it was her first day) asked if we had physical IDs. I told her I had a picture of mine, and she went to check if that was okay. Instead of a supervisor handling it, the bartender (Xavier, whom we later found out was NOT a manager) stepped in and told us we needed physical IDs just to enter—not just for alcohol, but to EAT.
His excuse? Something about “18-21-year-olds coming in with guns,” how if the police came and we didn’t have physical IDs, they’d get in trouble, and that it was “policy” and Mesquite’s curfew. Meanwhile, he told us we could ask the people at the bar for their IDs—so why were WE singled out?
Mind you, I’m 23 years old and with my mom. Instead of letting it go, we had to drive 20 minutes back home and 20 minutes back just to get my ID.
Here’s the kicker: when we returned, NO ONE checked our IDs. We watched multiple groups walk in without being asked, including two younger-looking girls who went straight to the bar and ordered drinks from him! He said he didn’t ask for their ID because they’re regulars and he knows them. Well the police wouldn’t know that now would they? Xavier avoided looking at us the entire time. When we confronted him, he kept repeating, “I understand” but clearly didn’t. He even tried walking away mid-conversation. When we asked for his name, he straight-up LIED and said “Chris Redfield” (yes, the video game character). Our actual waiter later told us his name was Xavier. Be so for real.
And after all that? The food was overly salty. I’ve had seafood boils from multiple places, and I have never had one this salty.
Overall, this was a terrible experience. Unfair treatment, unnecessary hassle, and subpar food. I won’t be back. If I could give ZERO stars, I would!!

I went to shell shack around 9:50 10 ish. I waited 10 minutes to be seated because there was no host at the front stand …. I did not receive my food till 11:57 i watched 4 other tables come in after me and they all received their food before me. Not to mention when i did receive my food my fish was soggy and smelled like the freaking ocean , shrimp had no taste just shrimpy ….. honestly if i could give them 0 stars i would the experience i got tonight was unacceptable and i wont be giving them my money again .

Can’t believe I paid 3 something for 4 sliced sausages what’s a rip off. The bartender was ok she could’ve been more nicer. It was a server stealing drinks in putting them in her apron. The fish was ok, onion rings had no taste what so ever. The seafood boil was good just the 3 pieces of sausages were not ok

Edit: I came for takeout and they forgot the sauce. It ruined the whole meal, and when I called they left me on hold for over 10 minutes.

We've frequented the Mesquite location several times since it opened. The food has always been good, and the service has been hit or miss. These last 6 months, the portions for the boils have gotten smaller with super tiny snow crab legs, fewer shrimp, and smaller portions of sausage. Today, our food was not even hot. While they have great flavor, I cant justify spending my hard earned money there with everything else I see. The restaurant itself has become run down, and quite filthy. The tables are all filthy and wobbly, the floor where we were seated had something spilled all over it, the flooring was coming up and the floor almost felt like you could fall through it! There is broken patio seating. The menus are so disgusting you don't want to even touch them! My husband had something stuck to the inside of his. They had no draft beer, only bottle and they weren't cold. I've watched a girl in the bar notice something on either the inside or outside of a glass she had a drink in, she just grabbed another glass and poured it from one to the other. I really hope whatever it was, was on the outside of the glass. The hand cleaning station had shrimp pieces in it and it smelled horrible. None of the paper towel dispensers work and the ladies rest room was horrendous! Today was our last visit unless they make some major changes!

While our dinners were very good, a lot of things need improvement. Food took very long. After a 20 minute wait our server apologized for the long wait and said it would be 5 minutes more. After 15 minutes our dinners arrived. There was no draft beer available, only light domestic beer. Chardonnay was served at room temperature. Restrooms are in need of a thorough renovation to remove layers of dirt. First and last time for us at ShellShack.

Horrible place!!!! The bartenders said she couldn't dress my beer because it might explode! Like what kind of bull-shit is that. The menus were disgusting and dirty so were the paper towels on the table!!!! NEVER COMING BACK HERE EVER!!!! 🤢🤮

Recently went back, absolutely a terrible experience my favorite waitress wasn’t there they told me she quit and obviously I can’t blame her. I was met with the worst service and I can only imagine how they treat the quality workers there. Seems like the people who run the place are on drugs. Very twitchy and over talkative, one of the girls with a face tattoo forgot my order and I was waiting a while, I asked for the manager and he wasn’t any help at all. Obviously these guys don’t get paid enough. But also the management isn’t anything more than a normal employee, they are being paid off tips and have zero customer service. I highly recommend group NA meeting after each shift. It would bring the team closer and they would be able to have better relationships on top of improving their overall attitude. Also way too much salt you ever heard of other seasonings.

I love this place but I went last night and got food poisoning. The crab felt not as warm as it should've been. I woke up around 5am to violently vomiting everything on my stomach. My friend feels sick but isn't vomiting.
