My husband and I are recent transplants from Charleston, SC and Atlanta, GA respectively and were looking for some down home cooking and soul food. We hoped to find it at Doris J’s. We didn’t. We ordered several fried chicken dinners with sides and it unfortunately wasn’t good. Our chicken was almost burnt(fried waaaaay too hard) the green beans were super salty, the Mac n cheese was mid, the fried cabbage was dreadful and weirdly sweet. The best thing which still could’ve used some razz or dazzle was the corn bread dressing and the kool-aid. I had high hopes because of the previous reviews but apparently we have different taste buds for sure. I don’t want to be harsh so I will just leave it as it was the first and will be the last time we eat here.

My husband found this place on here and we went and let me just tell you the best chicken and dumplings I’ve ever had! Only 1 problem was it was too much delicious food 💁🏼♀️ I left full and satisfied! This is a great place to get soul food I will definitely be back again ❤️
Last time I came here it wasn’t great like it usually is. Decided to give it another try. Called in an order that they said 30 minutes on. I waited the 30 minutes plus an additional 30 minutes and the food still isn’t ready. How ridiculous. This place has gone downhill all of a sudden. Used to be top notch now it’s like everything else in this town. ?Definitely won’t give them anymore chances. Got my money back after the long wait then I noticed flies galore crawling on waiting orders.
No words can describe how delicious the food is at Doris J's! Everyone is so friendly as well! If you want good down home cooking, this is the spot! My husband and I literally just left the restaurant and I had to get on here and write a review!
First time here and let me tell you. You will not leave hungry. The food, atmosphere and service was amazing, definitely 10/10. We will definitely be coming back.

I rarely give a 5 star, but this place OMGOSH. First of all it was one hour before they closed. We were greeted warmly. Our server, Jaynae, was amazing. She took our order quickly and had our drinks out so fast. I wanted everything off the menu. Our order came out in about 20 mins, and it all looked a d smelled so good. It tasted even better. I had the meat Loaf, greens, fried okra, cabbage, cornbread dressing, my daughter had the fried catfish plate with black eye peas, broccoli ruce casserole, and french fries. Dad had the sausage sandwich and french fries. We had strawberry cake, pecan pie, and sweet potatoes for dessert. It was all so good. The place was so clean. We even ordered a to go meal. I was so amazed prices for four people it was 70.00. We will definitely be going back

So this my honest opinion. I'm from the south and had this place recommended to me. I'm not sure how long this place has been in business but the first red flag was when I didn't see the "food inspection grade" visible anywhere. That's usually the first thing I look at when entering a restaurant, when I didn't see it, I was going to walk out but I like to support a black business. The price is good for the amount of food given. I got the oxtail, Mac n cheese, black eyed peas, and fried cabbage. The oxtails were ok, mac n cheese was decent but salty, the black eyed peas and cabbage were very bland and lacked seasoning. The restaurant didn't seem to be upkept well either so I hope that changes. Maybe I just came on a bad day, so I hope it gets better in the future.

First time here and I purchased an oxtail dinner plate. I wasn’t impressed the macaroni and cheese was not cheesy but rather gritty. The yams didn’t have a glaze on them and weren’t sweet. The corn bread muffin was pretty good and the oxtails weren’t seasoned tasted pretty bland. The service was good and the staff was nice. Also don’t like the fact you have a service fee for using a debit card. For 28$ it just was not worth it. Overall the seasoning could be better.

Absolutely great soul food and all your favorite sides yams, Mac and cheese, black eyed peas, fried cabbage, red beans, mixed greens and more. Fried pork chops cooked to order. They also have one of the best frozen margaritas. Great place to meet up with friends
Vegetarian options: Veggie burgers and they also have a veggie plate of 4 sides and a cornbread muffin.
Parking: Large parking lot, in shopping center. The old Chinese Kitchen building is exactly where Doris Js kitchen is located
Kid-friendliness: Child chicken strips, mini corn dogs, grilled peanut butter sandwich, chicken N waffles
Wheelchair accessibility: Lots of space inside restaurant and in parking lot as well
