Ambiance can only get you so far. We have eaten here several times over the course of the last year and the quality has been on the decline with each visit. We have visited for weekend brunch and dinner on both weeknights and weekends. We have tried various items on the menu. We have also had drinks from the bar. Our first couple of visits were decent because the ambiance and the bar redeemed the mediocrity of the food. However, the quality of both the food and the quality of the drinks have slowly declined. I’ve ordered the BBQ. It was downright terrible. I would eat it as the bbq nachos, but their are pretty pricey for what they. During our last visit, I ordered a simple grilled chicken salad. I was so so disappointed. The grilled chicken was served refrigerator cold and the spinach leaves had black spots on them. I ordered a gin martini and was given a half serving. The glass was not even half full…and it wasn’t even well done. We have continued to go simply because it’s cool, but at this point, we won’t be back. So sad.

Best dinner in Midlothian hands down. The music was great. The restaurant was packed so the atmosphere was energetic. Our waitress knew the menu well and made great recommendations for food and drinks. The wedge salad was perfect for an appetizer. Great time all around!

OMG!!!!! This restaurant is fabulous! If we could give it 10 stars we would. Our party of 4 had 4 bar drinks, 2 appetizers, 4 entrees, and 3 desserts and it was ALL outstanding! The prices are very competitive and even better than just OK restaurants. Most of the dishes could easily be split between two but we wanted to try as many different items and obviously took boxes home. It’s a good place for a business meeting (our purpose). It will definitely impress. We all agreed we will return whether it’s for business of not. Kudos to the staff as well.

Pros: Fast and Friendly service Really tasty salad Delicious smoked wings Really nice and hearty guacamole Chill environment
Cons: The Fish Tacos as an entree were a bit small, and had mediocre flavor
The Old Fashioned was missing the orange peel, the cherry, and seemed to have overpowered bitters
Overall I would return, to try the other entrees and the smoked wings again

Well if anyone has ever read any of my reviews, they knew that one of my biggest peeves is bad service. Our waitress refilled our drinks all of one time. And we had to get another waitress to tell her we needed refills. As for the food. Well usually when when the prices are high, the food is worth the price. But not in this case. I ordered the half pound brisket plate and apparently they ran out of flavor in the kitchen. And the onions and pickles were stale, like really chewy. My wife ordered the pork chop and while that was pretty good, we later found out ir was $20 and the mashed potatoes was not included in the price. Really? 20 bucks for a single pork chop with no sides. Wow! To say that this place was a total disappointment would be an understatement. I love Midlothian and have been a proud resident for quite some time now and believe me there are some mighty fine eateries but this place was a total bust. And the prices are ridiculous for what they bring to the table. I'd give them two enthusiastic thumbs down 👎 and would not recommend Pen to paper to anyone.

Sydney was our server tonight. We sat on the patio and the atmosphere was awesome. Such a nice place to dine at. I ordered the Midlo Wedge with the new sirloin steak, which was cooked perfect medium rare like I asked and the amazing kitchen accommodated my every need. The fried pickles were top notch and the ranch was the piece of cake! 😂. Our server was great and she did a very good job of making sure we were well taken care of despite it being busy. The price point was great because of the high quality food that was served. If I could give a 50/10 I would and will 100% be going back.
