For years I had driven by and not stopped bc I was always hurrying down to College Station. Now I stop by EVERY SINGLE TIME! I LOVE the old building, the service is fantastic and is only matched by the homemade food! Their green hot-sauce is amazing and the tamales are to die for! Irene's might be a bit out of the way, but it's ABSOLUTELY worth the stop! I give this place the absolute highest recommendation, you HAVE TO try it!

Just had another delicious meal! Beef chili rellano for me & chicken big burrito for wife. Wonderful as always. Good food & great service!

The atmosphere, the friendliness, and mostly the great food, just to name a few reasons I recommend Irene‘s Covina .

This is the kind of place we have been looking for to round out our Mexican food loves. Great little family restaurant that focuses on doing a few things great. Tacos, burritos, chili rellenos, and amazing tamales. Don’t miss out.

This is such a cozy place with such wonderful, cheery decor and tasty food that you will be in love with it the first time you taste anything here. If you are a taco person, I recommend their chicken street taco plate, with onion and cilantro, paired with their salsa verde (which is very unique and flavorful); if you have a lighter appetite, I would recommended their quesadillas or quesadilla plate; if you are a bigger eater, get their BIG burrito and that's guaranteed to fill you up! It's high-quality food at a very reasonable price--and NO LARD in anything! They use vegetable oil in both their rice and refried beans, and it's that much more delicious and one of the few (possibly the only one in the area) that uses only vegetable oil to cook their food. This is a family-owned operation (by Irene and Robert Alvarez) and they will make you feel welcome. I love this place and after a few bites you will too.

Delicious chicken enchiladas!!! The chips are thick and crunchy and the salsa is very tasty! We'll be back!

I stopped by while on a work trip. It's a small little spot off of the road. They have a very simple menu to chose from. I had the Chicken Taco Salad. The service was quick and the salad was tasty. They had a few other things that looked tasty. I'd be back if I was passing through again.

I'm local and this is a very small town. Irene's is one of the few places open on Friday night. We always enjoy the food. It is a little more expensive than driving into Palestine, but the owners Irene and Robert are great. They make a point to call you by name and often recall your regular order. The atmosphere is quaint and they have patio seating. We are big fans and will keep going back. P.S. Irene's tamales are locally famous. I would highly recommend.
