one of Houston's absolute gems. glad to see them serving in a new location!
Vegetarian options: The food was amazing but the vegetarian options sparse. Many of the dishes in the vegetable/tofu section do have shrimp or fish sauce in them. My boyfriend is strict buddhist and doesn’t eat any fish—so he ordered the water spinach w garlic sauce and loved it. A few of the appetizers are also veggie. They offered to make the vegetable fried rice wo fish sauce as well. The roti bread w curry was my favorite. Everything was delicious! We left v full and happy.

Update: Restaurant is closed and not open until august 8th, 2024. I'm not sure if previous owners still own the restaurant. One star because I ordered food to go, got there, place was open and ... order was canceled when i got there....because the restaurant is not open to the public yet. Disregard precious review.
WOWOWOWOW! Best Malaysian restaurant in anywhere. Get yourself some roti canai, satay and literally anything else off of the menu. The staff is so attentive we never had to even ask for anything. They were so nice as well. We got mee goreng, water spinach, tofu, and the appetizer. LOVED EVERYTHING and cleaned our plates. We will be back again and again.

Highly recommend this restaurant. It has good food and reasonable price during this economy. My favorite dishes are roti canai, Singapore Chili Shrimp, salted egg tofu and vegetable with Sambal sauce.

The food was so yummy. You need to try their salted egg dishes. They’re so delicious. The staff were very nice and helpful.
Sambal Chef stands out for flavorful food, cleanliness, and friendly service. We stopped by for the first time a week ago and ordered roti canai, chicken satay, and eggplant with shrimp.
All the food was well seasoned and flavorful. The roti was light and fluffy. Dipped in the accompanying sauce, it became a perfect balance of texture and flavors that melted in my mouth. The chicken satay was perfectly cooked with a slight grill flavor. The sauce that it came with was sweet and buttery. Together, they created a harmony of flavors. The eggplant and shrimp was a stir fried dish and was a little too oily for me, but still tasted great.
Great customer service added to our pleasant experience. The owner came by a few times to check on us. We talked about his restaurant and Malaysian food. Next, he surprised us with a sample of a beef dish which was also delicious.
We would recommend Sambal Chef if you want flavorful Malaysian food at reasonable prices and friendly service. We have added it to our restaurant rotation and will be back to try the rest of the menu!

Excellent and authentic Malaysian food. Probably the only place in and around Houston that serves chili crab and black pepper crab when crab is available. They offered switch to lobster as crab was not available one time and it was equally tasty. I am so glad to have found this place...

We love Malaysian food and are in the med center but decided to try sambal because of the good reviews. Our go-to place before was banana leaf in China town and we've been to others including Pappa rich and while each is good in its own respect sambal is great. The owner is friendly, the food authentic... portions good and price great. Can't wait to return... We had the chili lobster, roti canai, beef rendang and Chinese broccoli with garlic...all great

This is the first time I've ever had Malaysian food and it was absolutely delicious, we got the softshell crab, beef rendang and the mee goreng. They were all absolutely amazing. The service was good of the line. The staff are incredible and they want to share the wonderful tastes of Malaysia with everyone. I highly recommend, if you enjoy Thai food, Indian food and Chinese food, the best I can explain it is as food at the crossroads of all three of those with the best influences of each.

I've been to Malaysia and this is authentic real deal! Everything was delicious. Bold, spicy flavors. Sometimes they have chili crab specials. You can't go wrong with the basics like Nasi Lemak (photo) - street food chicken curry with sambal sardines & coconut rice. We also had the curry seafood soup & snowpea greens with sambal. Both were fantastic.

First time trying Malaysia food. I ordered the Chicken Satay & Malaysian Style Fried Sparerib. The chicken satay: meat was tenderand moist, the peanut sauce was savory tangy-sweet. It paired well together. It also didn't have any spicy to me. The ribs were had a light taste to it was crispy so the otter layer had a slight crunch. The meat was extremely soft, the sauce that came with it was so good. It was a sweet sour taste with a little heat. Definitely worth an order
Som of the best Malaysian food in Pearland.

I came here after it was lunchtime on a weekend. There was no wait. The staff were friendly and checked up on me pretty often. The food, I went for what was recommended. I especially liked the roti canai. I wanted to get more of the roti to dip in the delicious sauce. The salted egg calamari was prob not for me at first since it was a unique taste. As I ate more of it, I started to like the flavor. Unfortunately, some of the squid pieces weren't cooked through. The beef rendang had a good amount of spices and I liked the slices of cucumber on the side. It was refreshing and gave my tongue a break from the tender beef. It's a small restaurant but there are space enough for parties of probably 4-6 people at a table section. There is space in the middle to walk through.
