I ordered a steak medium rare. When it came out (20 minutes later) it had a couple of bites that were medium rare, while the rest of the steak was medium or more. I asked if it could be recooked and my server came back stating her manager said someone would have to pay for the 2nd steak to be recooked, and that someone would be me. That made no sense to me as I wasn't the one that overcooked the steak. She asked if I wanted the one I sent back, back. I told her no, as it was too tough for me to eat which is why I sent it back in the first place. This saddened me as I planned on going there every night for the remainder of the next 2 weeks I am in town to get a steak after work. I don't feel it right to pay for a 2nd steak when the cook messed up the first one. Oh and they did offer a discount (5 dollars) on my 38 dollar steak since it wasn't cooked correctly.

After reading other reviews, we decided to try the AlpIne Lodge for our one night in Pecos, TX. So glad we did. We had, perhaps, the best server we have encountered on our trip across the state. Her name is Des and she was outstanding. Always smiling, she made sure we had a pleasant and enjoyable meal. My husband tried the chicken Cordon Bleu at her suggestion and was very pleased. The chicken was cooked just right, he said. My chopped steak was also cooked just right. Everyone we encountered in our visit was pleasant and courteous, but especially Des. Be sure to tip her well if she is your server. She works hard to make her customers have a positive experience.

I enjoy dining here. I love the buffet and salad bar and they also have food to order off the menu. Chicken Fried Steak is delicious. Soup and salad bar as well. Homemade desserts on deck. Yum..Not to mention a great bar and delicious drinks. Mexican candy shot is so delightful. The atmosphere is quite welcoming and good music.

Was seated quickly, the staff who seated me grabbed my tea immediately.Had a bit of a wait for my server, David, to take my order but from that point forward he took excellent care.Drink stayed full, he was attentive but not intrusive - honestly the best part of the experience.Took just over 25 minutes for my meal to come out, chicken fried steak, stuffed potato and, steamed broccoli.The CFS was a fair size for the price, although a bit tasteless and covered in white gravy. While the potato was steaming hot, the cfs barely registered as tepid.The broccoli was warm, and almost raw.The potato should have been a standout with cheese, bacon, onions, sour creme and butter - all the elements of something wonderful. I just didn't come together.Overall the great service offset otherwise mediocre food.Understandably, this is pecos and fine dining options are borderline criminal in their absence. I'm here for a week and may opt to give them another chance.
Our food was great - really thick ham and cheese sandwich and nice salad bar. The restaurant was very busy, and I want to commend our server David! He was the only server working today, and he hustled and kept all the customers happy. And did it all with a big cheerful smile on his face! What wonderful service from a terrific employee!
