Madurai Thattu Kadai gives a very authentic local Tamil Nadu experience. We took a friend who recently visited, and he said it felt just like being in Madurai. The posters on the walls add to the authentic vibe. You’ll see lots of families with kids, but also people coming here to drink (tasmac effect), so it’s not always the most family or kid-friendly environment. Cleanliness could be improved, and the biryani can sometimes be a bit salty. My personal favorite is the chicken kizhi parotta—definitely worth trying! Overall, it’s a great spot if you want a taste of Madurai in town.

I will never go here again. The food was so bad. How can someone not make good samber?

Traditional South Indian food. Food is close to Tamil style. Overall food Quality is good . Quantity is not bad at all. All are self service - order- pick up . Chicken pepper fry is good. Biriyani is somewhat good - will get Egg . Sambar will not recommend. Masala dosa is ok like ordinary. Tried Nannari juice it was too sweet but ok. Overall good spot to hangout with South Indian traditions and dishes.

Koththu parotta was made with old stored smelly parotta. Dont ever buy that. I noticed that the cook literally smelled the parotta to see if it smells or not, before preparing the Koththu parotta. Worst experience.

The food was ok. The chairs and tables are poorly arranged and some of them wobble. People gave a lot of hype but if you set your expectations less, it will be a good place. Briyani was spicy, kids raised here could not handle. It was so for adults. Parotta salna was not fully cooked it had the raw flavor. Kotthu parotta was definitely good.

I ordered idiyappam after confirming that they were not frozen. However, I received frozen idiyappams that smelled awful, along with an average curry. We don’t go to restaurants to eat frozen items that we could easily buy from a grocery store. The worst part was the unpleasant smell, yet they still served it. Their non-veg curries seemed flavorful, but the veg curries were pretty average. I didn’t find the establishment hygienic enough.

Authentic Tamil Nadu flavors in the heart of Plano!
We had lunch today from Madurai Thattu Kadai—Chennai Wedding Biryani, Kallu Dosas with sambar and chutneys, Weekend Special Non-Veg Thali, and Chicken Fry. Every dish was flavorful and comforting, just like a traditional Tamil feast. The ambiance and taste truly bring South India to Texas. Consistently amazing!

Elai parotta is spoiled and the chicken smells bad and sour. They should be careful about expired food.
