Used to have authentic, delicious, vegan friendly food. New owners changed all of those things. Now they serve vegetarian food that's no different than most other restaurants. Updated from previous review on 2023-07-18
I’ve been going to Malgudi for more than a year and I crave it all the time! There’s a live dosa station and vegan items are clearly labeled. Everything I’ve tried so far has been delicious!
Not yet open.
Although most Indian food can be made vegan friendly, it is nice to see it clearly labeled here.?I believe a lot of the tiffins are vegan, they also have tofu tikka masala & palak tofu, and a vegan biryani with tofu/veggies, among other items. Super good & definitely worth trying.
We tried the buffet, but I didn't think that it was worth it at all as I'm vegan and there weren't enough options. I'll definitely never do the buffet again. The buffet has the following vegan option: 1. Dosa counter (unlimited). Can ask for idly / vada with a few vegan options and chutneys. (Loved this) 2. Healthy sides like cooked chana, sprouted moong daal etc. (loved this) 3. Chaat counter: samosa chaat, pani puri (nope, just not tasty) 4. Starters: Gobi Manchurian (nope, way too oily) 5. Main: Aalo gobi, Sambar, Pulav (nope, not the greatest stuff to try out) 6. Dessert: Vegan payasam (Loved this) If you're vegan, I highly recommend that you to just do ala carte and try vegan palak tofu or vegan tofu butter masala type of dishes with roti, or other varieties you usually don't get to try elsewhere.
Vegan options were clearly marked, very popular with a fairly long wait late on a Friday evening.
Great place to try new indian food. Everything is vegan unless specifically marked non vegan. Each time I have eaten here the majority of the buffet line is vegan! Their regular Naan is vegan and it's included in the buffet price!
This is my favorite spot in Plano! I use to live there but now I live about a hour away, but I still keep going. The food is very worth it. The people working here are so nice!! They will invite you to try new food and will help you select vegan dishes if needed. The buffet is clearly labeled for vegan dishes, which makes it so easy. I also recommend this place for your omnivore friends. This has been the only spot where they never say, " This could be better if it had meat."
This place has the best samosa chaats I’ve had. Other places I’ve tried the samosa is basically like a soup but this place keeps it dry with the chaat on top. I’d go here just for this.
Non- Vegan items are labelled.
Restaurantji Recommends
I had driven by this place before but didn't go in. I finally went for the lunch buffet and I'm glad I did. They have a very good selection. A few options are labeled "non vegan" and everything else is vegan. The food has a lot of flavor and it's just spicy enough for my westerner palate. I'll definitely be back.
They have an everyday lunch buffet. it's amazing they have lot vegan options and it's pure vegetarian restaurant. They do have a non-vegan food but they mention on name tags which has a non-vegan. highly recommend to all vegan & vegetarian lovers.
Delicious food that is all either vegetarian or vegan. The buffet has a lot to offer, and everything is clearly marked veg or vegan. Can't wait to return!

Malgudi Garden has quickly become one of my family's favorite restaurants. Even my "meat and potatoes" daughter likes these vegetarian and vegan preparations.
