Service was poor, our table of 10 got neglected, anything from missing extra tortillas, short on plates, and taking forever with anything. Food was mediocre at best. Will not be going back and don't recommend to others.

A Rocky Start Turned Royal Treatment: Our Evening at Mexican Sugar on 4/13/24!Dining at Mexican Sugar in Plano was an experience that started with a stumble but ended in a triumph fit for royalty.Upon arrival, we were met with less than stellar service from our assigned server, whose disinterest was palpable. However, rather than letting this sour our evening, we took the initiative to address our concerns with one of the managers. What followed was a candid conversation that transformed our experience entirely.From that moment on, we were treated like absolute royalty. We had reserved a table for my niece and her friend, who were preparing for prom night and deserved nothing but the best. And Mexican Sugar delivered just that.The service post-conversation was nothing short of exceptional. We were checked on frequently, our glasses never emptied for long, and we were even treated to a delightful lesson on the origins of the tequila we were enjoying. It was evident that the staff went above and beyond to ensure our evening was nothing short of extraordinary.And let's talk about the food. Every dish that graced our table was a masterpiece of flavor and presentation. Cute spot on Plano but our waitress didn’t stop by our table to check on us. We had to wait 10 minutes to ask for check because she was nowhere to be found… Very disappointing…Will probably go back to the Irving location.

I get they are trying to be a hip restaurant but the music was so loud at lunch on Sunday you couldn't have a conversation with a normal voice.They were understaffed so service was inattentive for the price point. I don't blame the staff, they were hustling, there were just too few of them.

Service was horrible when paying for the meal. The first version had a charge of $48 for two martinis of Grey Goose. We ordered well and the waitress knew that. Even if it had been Grey Goose, $24 fora martini is ridiculous. The waitress argued that that was the correct amount but did affirm we ordered well. Finally, I sent her to talk to her manager. She was unhappy. She came back and the ticket was adjusted correctly. I asked to split the bill with our other couple. The total bill was about 160. She handed me the charge to sign for on the pad. The amount was about $100. I asked how that could be since the total was 160 and half would be $80. Again, she argued that it was correct. I asked for the manager and she frowned and went to get him. When he came over, she scowled at us the whole time. He fixed the bill and pretty much had no explanation for the two mistakes. He was kind enough to offer us something for our inconvenience and arguments. He gave us NOTHING as a sign of their apology. We won’t ever go back.

The service was friendly. The food was good. The chips and salsa are complementary. As a note, they also offer a habanero hot sauce. They charge $3 for this, but you can also take it home. The Margarita flight was great!! I enjoyed the Hibiscus margarita the BEST, but they are all delicious. The out of office was very refreshing!the lobster queso fundido was also excellent. The atun crudo aka tuna tartar was excellent. The plantain thin tostadas were a great compliment. The seafood paella was delicious with the habanero hot sauce! My son really enjoyed the steak, although he wasn't a big fan of the cilantro lime rice. Hopefully, we can make it back.
