After a trip to Japan, I was longing for food that I ate in Tokyo. When I saw that this restaurant displays their menu using plastic models (just like in Japan), I knew this was going to be legit. Ordered ramen and chicken katsu curry along with pumpkin tempura. Can’t wait to come back and try their sushi and sashimi. This place is truly a hidden gem.

Tokyo Shokudo was, for six months, our dedicated Japanese spot, where we dined 3-4 times a month specifically because of its authentic flavors—the closest we could find to local Japanese restaurants. Unfortunately, a recent change in ownership (reportedly from Chicago) and subsequent menu/kitchen changes have resulted in a drastic and unacceptable decline in quality.

We ordered our usual favorites—Tonkatsu Ramen, Chicken Karaage, Tempura Set, and Katsudon—and the difference was immediately apparent and genuinely disappointing....
Ramen - no boiled egg and they put lots of red ginger. I know Japanese food...and taste is horrible.
Chicken karage - not deeply fried..it's ok but not too much oil.
Tempura set - you get two shrimps and add fish. It's too oily..they didn't sit and let it drip the oil.
Katsudon - it's ok but not the same as before.

Server said the owner came from Chicago and they changed the menu. It's ok to change menu but need to stick with the japanse standard at least.

Got deluxe tonkotsu ramen. It was good. They use thick noodles which I’m not a fan of. The Chashu was delicious. I had to pay a dollar to make it spicy and it wasn’t spicy. They put about 30,000 bean sprouts in my bowl which was kinda annoying. I wouldn’t come back for ramen but I’m definitely coming back. I can tell this restaurant is good I just prefer my ramen prepared differently.

Editing from 5 to 2 stars. After going back a year later, the restaurant went downhill. Very small portions sizes with a higher price tag. The watery miso soup almost made me vomit. What a shame, we were excited to be living closer and come more often. Somehow, my gyudon had under-cooked egg white, but no yolk??

It is hard to understand why so many people are satisfied with cheap ingredients but high prices. The tonkotsu ramen here are not fast food from powders, which is already better than many. Instead, what I got is a bowl of pork fat without soup. It’s quite funny.

I've been coming to here for at least 2 years now. I loved the extensive menu for the different types of Japanese food available but I'm sorry to see that Carlos Pinto (Carlos Jr) may no longer be offering his special tendon tempura since the menu has changed and there is no more sashimi/salmon/tuna bowls. I recently tried his Tendon Tempura in Pasadena, CA and I was looking forward to having more here in DFW because I remembered his logo and saw him in the kitchen before. I hope he will eventually open his own here :)

The place is good, It’s overpriced thought, although the food looks good it’s not that tasty, and even rebought the have a sign outside that says free ice cream it only qualifies for kids (no idea why they won’t specify) I would say it’s a cute place but over all the food and the price is not worth it

The food was fine. Edible, but nothing to write home about.

You are forced to order and pay through the Toast application. There is no customer service whatsoever. If you have questions about the menu, you are basically left to figure it out on your own. After you place the order yourself through the website and enter in any customizations you might need yourself, they have the audacity to ask for a 22% tip.

Won’t be back. There are much better options with a 1 mile radius and actually have servers / customer service.
