I walked in and all was well, greeted with smiles order taken. They gave me a bottle of water to drink while i waited for my order. Selected okra soup with chicken and fufu. The dish came.

Firstly this dish you eat with your hands, but wasn’t saved any bowl to wash my hands. When i asked i was referred to go wash in the toilet. Did so and came back. Started eating, as i got to the chicken pealed of the skin and noticed something wasn’t right. I opened it furthermore and blood started dripping from it. Had to stand up and go to the toilet to wash my hands again.
Came back spoke to the sever

Ok, so I love the place — truly a heaven for the African community. We can’t take that away. The food is great.

But… here’s the thing. Online, it says you open at 12:30. I got there a little bit before, just to make sure I didn’t miss the opening. I called — nobody picked up.

At 12:30, the restaurant was open but completely empty. I stepped out and waited. A lady came in and sat at the front desk. I went back, but this time the door was closed. Since I could clearly see her inside, I tried calling again — more than 5 times — just to place an order and pick it up later. Still, no answer.

I drove 50 minutes to get there. Please update your hours online — it would save people time and frustration.

The food is good but the service is not good at all! We placed a order already on the phone we told her 30 min and we will pick up the order, after i came to pickup the order and after I waited for 5 min on the counter and no one approached to service me, the counter lady told me oh we haven’t placed the order yet. Like whatt is that service. !!!! Horrible customer service!!!

This was our first time here and we ordered a variety of things to try. We got some fried potatoes and round fried balls for appetizers. For dinner, my husband ordered the grilled leg quarters and rice and I got the egusi soup. We really liked the grilled chicken, and would get that again. The egusi took about 40 minutes to prepare, which the waitress warned us about and we were ok with that. The issue was that the lamb egusi was not prepared well - I got horrible food poisoning that set in about 2 hours after dinner and took me out for an entire day the next day. And, the temperatures of the food when it got to our table was not great - most of the food was cold, like it should’ve been at our table 10-15 min ago. But portions of the plate were hot. So, the chicken was cold but the rice was hot, which makes me thing they don’t really prepare the food with the right timing.

The flavors were there but I don’t think we’ll be back, especially given their poor meat handling practices.

If it wasn’t for the food, this review would be a 0. Service was trash. We came here to eat today before traveling back to Jersey, where we live and I was not impressed by the lack of customer service here. No greeting when we walked in, my husband walked to the front and asked what should we do, and she says someone will come to you. After about 15 mins she comes to take our order. We didn’t get our food for an hour. My husband got his food first, then mine after an additional 10 minutes. He was almost done when my food came. Not to mention I had to walk to the counter and ask for the remainder of my food which was forgotten in the back. No one said anything. Not even a “hey your food is coming. Sorry for the wait.” I get it, good food takes time but there’s no courtesy or care amongst the staff there. This is really unfortunate because the food was really good.

I had an amazing experience at West African Way! The food is absolutely delicious and full of bold, authentic West African flavors. I tried the tchiep ( Senegalese jollof rice) with grilled chicken and fried plantains, and everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked. You can tell the dishes are made with love and pride.

The staff and chef Souleyman are very friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere feels just like home — warm, vibrant, and full of culture. Whether you’re West African or just want to explore something new, this spot is a must-visit.

Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy real Senegambian cuisine with a touch of Ivory Coast in the DFW area. I’ll definitely be back again soon!

Was very delicious! Shared egusi with my boyfriend and it was just enough for us both. Food took a bit long to come out but it was worth the wait. Food was well spiced and authentic and we’ll probably come back again :)
