One man runs the shop by himself after his wife died. He’s very nice and makes excellent egg tarts. They’re worth every penny!

My family used to get egg tarts from this bakery every time we'd come up to Dallas, recipe hasn't changed and they're still as delicious, buttery, and fluffy as ever. You do need to make sure to call ahead as they only do takeout, and try to be patient as I'm pretty sure the man who makes the egg tarts is the only one who runs the store and his English is a little broken. Little bit on the pricey side but I still think it's worth it. Give it a try!

Eaten egg tarts from Hong Kong, Houston, to Vancouver.

These in Dallas have a flaky crust with a buttery underside. The egg custard has rich, milky texture. Solid good. Not elite but better than the average.

Note: it’s a one man operation. So if you walk in, you cannot just pick up egg tarts. You need to order prior to coming (so be ready to speak Cantonese or English). It takes 15 minutes to bake for pick up. Peace.

The egg tart is pricey but indeed super good. The shop looks exactly like something from the old Hong Kong movies, although it is not a fancy place, it definitely got the right vibe.

Wow....I walked in to pickup my delicious egg tarts trying to make small talk with the owner who was an elderly gentleman. He was running the shop by himself and he told me his wife just passed away 2 months ago ??? I wasn't expecting that...and all this before he gave me a huge cake roll for free...I tried to tip him and he profusely declined... I can't believe there are stores like this still. I hope he keeps going and going. Remember cash only.

The lady who owns this place is a strange character. Walked in, all the displays empty. Oddly there was some random empty cereal boxes covering things. Asked if to see a menu and she tells me that only restaurants have menus, and bakeries dont. Then she proceeds to tell me theres nothing available because she really mostly only sells cakes and shes basicslly retired. Okay? Nobody asked? Honestly I think she was jist embarasssd st how empty and run down the store was and just making excuses. Bizarre.

All this at around maybe 1200 at noon. And looking at all these other reviews, it seems like the only thing they really sell is egg tarts.

I think rents arent high enough in richardson. What is all this? This could be a nice cafe, small restaurant, a functioning bakery. Anything but this.

Also basicslly dodged my only question. Hate ppl dodge questions. You must think ya slick...

The best Hong Kong style Dan Tat egg tarts in the DFW Metroplex. Oven fresh flaky crust with warm egg custard filling of this quality is a rare experience.Shop owner is very friendly and has an interesting and inspiring life story. I ordered 2 dozen the day before and they were ready as promised.

The egg tart is $4.99 each but $29.99 if you get a dozen. I got two, and it is indeed very good. I will make sure to secure enough headcount the next time so that it would make sense to buy a dozen!

Egg tarts are just like the ones I’ve had in HK. You must call at least 30 mins ahead but it may take a bit more for them to be ready as they are baked on demand. We got a dozen for $30 and came with something extra. Cash only. The chef was super friendly and great with kids. I would definitely order more when planning to be in the area.

Maria's Bakery has been around for over 30 years now- owner Dragon Mak is very friendly and shared his experience of escaping to Macau at age 12 and later starting a life in the states. This tiny mom & pop Asian bakery shop sells very limited number of items, and all orders are to-go. I recommend calling and ordering a dozen egg tarts ahead of time, because otherwise, you will likely need to wait for freshly baked egg tarts for 15 minutes. The wait wasn't that bad, but the shop is very small, and there were only about 4 chairs available inside (no restroom for customers). Before we left, the owner said to wait about 15 minutes to eat them so that the egg tarts had time to cool down a little. The egg tarts were very delicious - so crispy on the outside and perfect consistency on the inside. I'm starting to now realize that the crust makes or breaks an egg tart from being average vs. amazing. I also really liked that Maria's bakery egg tarts are a good size - way bigger than Kirin Court's, Ranch 99's, and 85 degrees'. I'll definitely be returning again!!TL;DR Call in for dozen egg tarts to-go and have $30 in cash. You'll taste the best egg tarts in the DFW metroplex!

Parking: Narrow parking lot that is only one-way

Kid-friendliness: Dragon Mak is very friendly and chatted with my 6yo

A low key cool baking master! It's probably not the strongest taste, but the best home style bakery guarantee. Plus they use authentic cane sugar!
