I visited this place back in 2012 and at that time I remember the food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was very charming. So I came back to visit and was a little underwhelmed. The food was good, but nothing special like I remember it to be. The decorations were just as pretty as I remember them to be and the workers were friendly and attentive, but the building could use a little work especially the bathrooms which were a bit dirty.Overall, thiis restaurant is worth stopping by to eat, but it is not as special as I thought it would be, or least how I remembered it.
4.5 stars? No way! The meat had decent smoke and was ok. Our waiter was not friendly and very short when questioned about menu. Macaroni and cheese was complete mess and didn't even rank among the generic box versions. Cole slaw tasted like it came out of a jar. Marzettis? As for the bake beans, they are definitely not home made. Put some more love in preparing the food. When the waiter retrieved our plates he didn't have to ask if we liked our sides. He said, "Sorry about the mac and cheese and the sides. I don't know what is going on in that kitchen." If you try to wash it down with a coke, be ready to have a strong taste of dirt. Cool place, but horrible food.
Met some wonderful people here and really appreciated them welcoming my campaign for Daniel Lee for Texas State Rep HD26 meeting my friends and staff there for my businesses in the past. They have the best BBQ and always so wonderful in service. They have plenty of parking and space inside for parties.
I have been eating at this restaurant for over 40 years and I’ve enjoyed every single meal until last night. I used to love their potato salad, but they completely changed the recipe and it is terrible!! The brisket was dry. Not sure why they are changing up a successful formula that has worked for over 40 years.
I can’t say this enough! This is my favorite bbq spot! I have been eating here for 33 years! Had my rehearsal dinner here! Foods amazing. Wait staff all just the sweetest ever! Cobblers are amazing. Worth the drive!
Like restaurant impossible the TV show, some people are stubborn and in disbelief that their restaurant is not that good. Ego wins...Years ago Swinging Door was really great but Spring Creek BBQ, Rudy's and others have really stepped it up. swinging door, I hope you sit back and dig deep into your soul and take my words to heart what once was is not and to win you have to do some very hard work. I'm sad it's not the same but you need to improve. Take it to level 10. Think Salt Lick. You have a huge beautiful location and mediocre food.People expect more these days.I'd love to see you thrive but you aren't on a waiting list on weekends after church for a reason....
Can't say enough about this place! Was fantastic and will be coming back again and again when I'm in the area for work. The pic says it all and the pecan pie I got to go was just right!
This place is all about the food!!!!!Everything was delicious.... green beans were awesome!!!!Update:The food was still delicious and still the best Greenbeans!!! Friendly staff, food delivered timely and drinks stayed full. Great service, ambience and food.
Visiting family and when in town we always try a different bbq place when we come. We had a group of 16. Called ahead and they had table set up for us when we arrived. It is definitely a ‘rustic’ feel. I don’t know that I felt it was the cleanest. Very old. Was kind of upset there wasn’t an actual swinging door at the entry. Haha. But man, when you walked in the door and that smoke hit ya…you know you are in for something good. The prices are on point. 2 meats and 2 sides (a ton of food) for around $17. Many in our party had leftovers. Not me. Haha. Brisket was moist and good. Ribs were even better in my opinion. They were huge, lots of meat on them. Sides were ‘okay’…I had Potato salad and Mac and cheese. My kids had baked potato with chopped brisket. That potato was as big as a nerf football and cooked perfectly. They did say the chopped brisket was a tad dry. My wife said the same as she got chopped brisket on house salad. We had no room for dessert but our neighbors cobbler and ice cream looked legit. Service was snappy and we wanted for nothing. Server was on it, even with such a large group.

This was an unplanned stop to delay heading back up north on rush hour traffic. Got a salad, combo plate, and a pitcher of beer. Very friendly service and atmosphere. Decor is an interesting accumulation of tidbits from the town and outlying areas, with a history of fire damage and corporate big wigs shuttling in by copter.Finished with a hot brownie sundae. Glorious.
I was excited to try the Swinging Door, but was disappointed. I had heard about it for years and was finally in the area. I ordered brisket and ribs with dirty rice and green beans. The brisket was dry, luckily the ribs weren't, but neither one had a great flavor. The dirty rice and green beans were good, but not spectacular. The BBQ sauce had way too much vinegar to be tasty. It didn't have a vast selection of great sides and desserts like I am accustomed to from Central Texas Barbecue in Pearland.
Kim is absolutely amazing and adorable! We love seeing her and having her serve us our meal! Swinging Door is an awesome place to eat!
Awesome food! Great BBQ potatoes!
Big bbq fans & this brisket potato was all things jumbo if ya know what I mean. Big on side but also big on flavor, smoked to perfection even the chicken was super tender. Glad we stopped by was an awesome lunch & those brownie blasts were the cherry on top!
