We love to pair a stop at Hard 8 down the street with a walk down to this pie shop. This pie shop offers pies that your grandma makes. Is it fancy? No. But it's just good old fashioned pies. I love it because of this very reason. Not trying anything fancy or crazy, just serving up home baked tasting pies. I've had the black berry cobbler and the coconut cream pie and couldn't find any fault with it. Always worth a treat!
Ive been to this shop often in the past, today I ordered 2 slices of the chocolate cream pie and I noticed a difference in the taste and texture of the pie crust. It was very crunchy and dry. It's never tasted this way before. I'm not sure if something has changed but it's definitely not as good as it once was.
I've been very eager to try Oak Street Pie Company since moving here. Tonight I tried the French Silk Pie, which is one of my favorite flavors of pie, and it was like eating sand. I tried the crust and filling separately thinking it was the crumbly crust giving it the texture. However, the filling was also gritty. Upon further inspection I could literally see the sugar crystals in the filling and crust. Hopefully the photos provided can properly show what I'm talking...
