We’ve enjoyed Salado Inn restaurant for decades and anxiously awaited it’s reopening after a change in ownership/management.We visited after the ‘big remodel’ and re opening.Had an ‘Austin’ vibe, without the quality of Austin restaurants.Sooo disappointing. We gave it some time and tried it again. Same experience and have not been back.No longer worth the drive from Waco.It is now closed, again, with a ‘re open’ date of spring ‘24.Let’s hope they get it right this time.

Let's be honest...the old Stagecoach needed a renovation. It needed a good update in atmosphere. What it did not need is a complete revamp of what made it a beloved restaurant. It was a historic stagecoach stop; it was supposed to be old-fashioned in a bit of a hokey manner; it was an iconic institution where Sunday dinners, Thanksgiving and Mother's Day reigned supreme and every civic club wanted to hold their meetings. Texans loved it. It was well renowned when I ate my first meal there in 1978, and the perfect place to hold our rehearsal dinner in 2007. On a recent anniversary, well...two years ago, we planned a night out at the reinvented Stagecoach. It was merely okay food-wise, yet expensive. Lovely renovation, but lacking in warmth and hospitality. Please reinstate some of the old ways of doing things; bring back some of the old recipes; and recreate a place of comfort and family which was the Stagecoach's strength and why it had been such an icon. We can all go eat someplace else if we want frou-frou. We'd rather have that familiar feel of the old Stagecoach; it meant something special to most of us.

Felt like we were at camp. Unfortunately, restaurant was closed.Mouse in bedroom woke us up as it tried to get leftovers in trash - no frig in room.Servers were great for food and bourban bar.

Have been in several times for dinner. The waitresses are always friendly, limited menu, food is decent. Nice, comfy, warm atmosphere.

I reserved dinner here as an homage the old Stagecoach Restaurant. Wish I hadn't. This is a high end expensive restaurant in a small town. Didn't feel right. And the space is not warm and inviting. Also the food was only average. With quite a limited menu. I would never recommend this restaurant. It doesn't fit in with Saldo.

Ordered fish and chips. Received 3 average size fish sticks that were overcooked and had burnt taste. Not worth $19. Will not return.

I gave four-out-of-five stars, because it was a little to expensive. With that said, great quality food, amazing service, and great atmosphere. Bruce my wife and I's waiter, was very courteous and friendly. Solid young man. What is really neat about the Stagecoach Resturant, is that is has been around since 1861. So, tons of history at the Stagecoach Resturant. I definitely recommend.Parking: Can get crazy sometimes finding a parking spot close to the Stagecoach Resturant if Salado is holding a festival or the little town is just packed, busy.

Been eating here for years. This was first time since new owners. We will never go back. Nothing was good. Out of several things. Even the kiss for l.brunch on Sunday. Very disappointed in the food.

The hotel is super cute and charming. The staff is sweet and they try to be helpful. Location is great. I love Salado and I’m happy to see local business thrive. I was so excited for the renovations of Stagecoach/Shady Villa and was looking forward to staying here. Here’s what you need to know:Accommodations- comfortable bed, but zero storage except for one tiny shelf under the biggest safe I’ve ever seen. There’s one tiny luggage rack so all of our suitcases were on the floor. Even in the bathroom, there’s nowhere to put your toiletries. Hot water runs out 2 minutes after you start your shower. Forget multiple people taking a shower one after another. This sucks specially if you have children. The Pool - the Pool area is cute but geezzz…mosquito infestation on steroids alert!!!! Most hotels treat for mosquitos around the pools and common areas, NOT HERE! Make sure to pack repellent. There are only two measly Sun shades for the whole pool area. The pool is dirty and has grass from the surrounding gardens which are beautiful and expected but they could have someone once in a while check the pool and clean out grass debris.FOOD - OMG save your stomach and DO NOT EAT HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I just don’t have worlds to describe how terrible food is here.Management- please get it together. The hotel has sooooo much potential. Improvements are not super expensive or unattainable. Get a new chef and new cooks, add storage to your rooms (IKEA is a good cheap option) get your staff to check your Pool regularly throughout the day. Hire a pest control company (an organic/natural one so you don’t poison visiting puppies and people don’t step or breathe in poison). Figure out hot water situation. Never coming back if they don’t address these issues. NEW MANAGEMENT PLEASE.

I have eaten here since I was in college in the 1970's. I long for the old days when the menu was recited by the waitresses and the food tasted home cooked and delicious. I love the atmosphere and location of this restaurant and I guess that's why I keep going back, but this has to be the last time! I gave my review 1 star because of location and atmosphere and our waitress was very good. I also love the hush puppies appetizer which I had thought about all day. Meal goes down from there. My friend ordered the shrimp pasta and I had the salmon and risotto. Both plates smelled so fishy when placed before us. Rather off putting. My salmon was the palest pink color on a white plate sitting on top of mushy white risotto. Apparently there were 2 small little pieces of asparagus in the risotto and a pink or magenta colored liquid swiped across the plate. The salmon had what appeared to be grey fish skin on top. I would be hard pressed to believe the skin even touched the pan. I had about 4 bites of the salmon and it was cooked, but again, the fishy smell made the dish so off putting. The shrimp in my friend's shrimp pasta was rubber. We had no dessert and no alcohol and our meal came to around $86 with tip and tax. I don't mind paying for a good meal, but this was horrible. Probably the worst meal I've ever had in my 73 years! I won't go back. This was the last visit. Don't know how this restaurant stays open and I've been many times. I don't know who cooks the meals but food prepared at a blue plate special cafe somewhere else in the county would have prepared more visually appealing and better tasting food. Please.....bring back a better restaurant at this location and better cooks.
