First off our server was really nice, but the food was terrible. The enchiladas chicken was very mushy and pink and it felt like it wasn’t cooked correctly when we told them And they just said that the chicken was boiled for two hours. The chicken didn’t have like any flavor even the rice. It just tastes very bland and then I also ordered al pastor tacos and it just tasted like cinnamon . Shocking, they didn’t give discount for the two enchilada plates or antlease one . even though it was hardly touched, my spouse after we left started throwing up , with that being said, check the food beforehand . The Charro beans were also very plain. They didn’t put any seasoning and most of the staff look like they were high. I do not recommend coming here if you’re looking for something with flavor cause Because you will be disappointed. it’s definitely more for tourist

If you come here. I advise to eat outside by river. To have a full experience. Inside is very dark. Closed in feeling.

Service was excellent, and of course great atmosphere due to being on riverwalk especially eating outside, however the food was not bad but a little bland and the tortillas were cold, but besides that it was great.

This was the one place on my bucket list to dine while visiting the Riverwalk! I was so excited to arrive and be seated right on the water! Amazing location, amazing food and atmosphere and even better service! Can't wait to go back!

I was so sad and disappointed by my recent visit to the iconic Casa Rio on the San Antonio Riverwalk. This restaurant holds many special memories for me. I used to visit with my family several times a year, and continued coming back as a young adult. It had been years since my last visit, and while in town with friends, I confidently recommended it as a must-visit Mexican restaurant.
Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. The food quality was far below expectations. Our queso came out cold and our meals were room temperature to cold. My husband even commented that he has had better frozen dinners. I felt embarrassed for recommending it, especially given the restaurant’s long-standing reputation.
Even the seating experience set a negative tone. The hostess was visibly and audibly inconvenienced when we politely asked for an indoor window seat, which made us feel unwelcome. Overall, it was disheartening to see such a beloved and historic restaurant fall so short of the experience I remembered.
Review of my food:
Upgraded Margarita – 0 out of 5
Queso - 2 out of 5
Fajita beef nachos – 1 our of 5 (so soggy and cold)
Refried beans - 2 of 5
Mexican rice - 2 of 5

Server absolutely was terrible. She couldn’t hear us when we asked questions and would just not answer. Brought out the wrong food (assuming because she misheard). Never checked to make sure things were ok and brought out the wrong food again. Margaritas were SO SMALL. Miserable experience, waste of $100.

We wanted to eat along the Riverwalk. This place looked festive and has a long history so we chose it. I had the regular plate( chili, cheese enchilada, pork tamale, rice & beans and thought it was excellent. My wife had chicken flauta plate and liked it as well.
Service was great and it is a very nice setting along a channel looking down another.

Restaurantji Recommends
This restaurant is all about the atmosphere. Went there on a pleasant evening and sat at a table outside. Enjoyed people watching along the Riverwalk and being right on the water. Food was lackluster in flavor and a disappointment. We ordered several appetizers to split instead of a main meal and none were worth going there again. Service was slow and not very friendly. If you want to eat something while enjoying the Riverwalk and are not very picky, then give it a try.

I wish I wouldn’t have listened to other people about where to go for good TexMex. I could make this at home and even way better. Top Shelf margarita was below top shelf flavor and food was not good at all. Gnats flying around. I know there is much better and I will never come back. Look for something different if you want good Tex Mex!!! It’s sad when the chips and salsa are the best part of your meal and even then you know you can do better at home.

Decent Mexican restaurant on the riverwalk. We got the queso and chips and beef tacos with rice and bean side's. The queso was more like velveeta than traditional queso, it did have a good flavor. The chips were good, light and crispy. The tacos were not that good, the meat was barely seasoned and the taco shells were very thick corn shells which were ok at best. The beans had a good flavor but they were skimpy on the cheese on top. The Spanish rice was very good, light and fluffy. Serivce was good and very attentive. Overall a good place to eat but not if you are wanting unforgettable mouthgasm's.
