We drove all the way across town to eat here for my son’s birthday. Big sign on the door, “we only accept cash, credit card machine out” Unbelievable

City famous for their CFS , IT WAS HORRIBLE . left the restraint crying, my mother would have been so disappointed !!! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY !!! Go to DENNYS INSTEAD !!!

We saw this Cafe on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and we chose to go!We all got the chicken fried steaks, which were delicious and HUGE (covers the plate, so come hungry); the gravy was on the bottom of the steaks, which was different. Extra gravy was provided upon request free of charge!Fries, onion rings, fried pickels, and chicken tenders (the appetizer sampler) was also very good! Now onto deserts...we ended up getting two cold pie slices, one banana (which actually had banana slices on top below the whipped cream), and a slice of chocolate. Both were decedent!Well worth the money and the drive! Featured of Tripple D for good reason, and heavily recommended. I saw they also do table reservations, so if you have anything special, they can accommodate.

I have eaten here for years. I moved away from SA couldn't wait to get back first time in 3 years. Not good any more. I had the CFS ordered it with fries, came with mashed potatoes I thought ok I'll let it go. Not good at all. My wife ordered Hot Beef sandwich it came out a tenderized beefsteak. Not good nothing was very good , bland. I'll just remember it the way it used to be. We will not be going back.

Worst service in 38 years. Food was great. Service is a different story. It shouldn't take two hours to eat. People who came in behind us shouldn't get food and leave before us. Ijs.

Smells yucky inside, super old building. I was going to try the food since the restaurant has been open for a long time, but they refused to take a coupon I bought from Restaurant.com even though I explained to them that I had driven all the way across town to find them. Pies looked good though, homemade. Staff not very friendly, no smiles ..

Went to Tip Top yesterday with my daughter and we both ordered the chicken fried steak. Very, very disappointed, the chicken fried steak literally had no steak but all breading. It was a year ago that we had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious. Very sad. I probably won’t be back.

The service was great the food was amazingly good, served hot and fresh. The fried chicken was hot juicy and crispy. Pie is scrumptious. I can't wait to go back to try it all.

Wow! I am certainly losing my respect for some reviews. I sat and read through so many not so great reviews for this restaurant that I was a little nervous about going there today with my retirement group for our monthly luncheon. One of our group mentioned it last month and raved about how good it was. I hadn't been in several years, but remembered it fondly. We had a reservation for 15 people at 1:30 PM. My friend Ann and I were the first to arrive at about 1:10. Sure enough, there sat our table in the middle of the dining room taking up a huge chunk of the available seating. The others trickled in over the next 20 - 30 minutes until we had a group of 14 crowded around the table jumping into conversations about anything but school. Our server, Monica, took our orders, answering a plethora of questions as she went. I remember several of them: three chicken fried steaks, 1 chicken salad sandwich, 1 hamburger, 1 tilapia sandwich, two BLT's, 1 pork chop plate, and one frito pie. I don't remember the others. Everyone said their food was very good. I know that my fish sandwich was second only to one I had in Key West a few years back. After reading comments about the salads being stale with yellow or brown soggy lettuce, I ordered a dinner salad to check for myself. It was absolutely fresh and crisp. It was definitely chilled. The blue cheese dressing was very good with huge chunks of blue cheese in it. About half of the people with me took to go boxes home with them. The servings were huge. My fish was so big and thick that I suspected that they might have substituted something for the tilapia. The pork chops were about an inch thick. The two of them filled up the plate to the point that I thought my friend had ordered a huge steak. The chicken fried steaks were hanging off the edges of the plates. I wish I had a ruler to measure them. They looked like they were about one foot long and eight inches wide. Way too much for most people to eat in one sitting. Sadly, I am trying to reduce my food consumption (I'm on a Pre-Pandemic Pushback Plan) so I didn't even consider getting pie. Neither did anyone else. We simply had too much food for that. Please do yourself a favor and look past the negative reviews for Tip Top. Based on our meal today, I truly believe things have been worked out, and the restaurant is back to the quality of its heyday. A lot of places struggled with kitchen staff during the Pandemic. Perhaps that can account for the rough spot mentioned in the bad reviews.

Came in expecting a late breakfast, but it's lunch and dinner only. Hubby got the chicken fried steak sandwich - said it was the tenderest CFS he's ever had. This place is my new go to for a fried fish sandwich. It's a little dingy, but the food made up for it!

Great place! It's a classic! Onions rings are the best. Chicken fried steak is huge!! But not very meaty. Mashed potatoes ok. Corn bread muffin good. Salad good. Bleu cheese dressing good.

The fact that this place has been around for as long as it has speaks for its self.If you want a good chicken fried steak, look no further. They have perfected the recipe. Also their onion rings are as good as it gets. They have won countless awards for them, so if you come here you have to try them!

Went to visit during lunchtime and the place was quiet and empty. I hadn't been here in over a year and things have definitely changed. The menu is one page front and back and the restaurant looked dingy, the air smelled musty. I think the kitchen was short staffed because several customers complained that they had been sitting for over 20 minutes without their food at their table. I ordered the Chicken fried steak w/fries and it was ready in about 10 minutes. I only recognized 2 workers so they've must have gone through a rough patch. Not the tip top cafe I've known since the 80's thats for sure. My CFS was good but the fries were served cold ( many patrons returned theirs) and the salad was not only wilted but most of the lettuce was old. Their soda fountain lacked carbonation so I switched to tea. I heard the waiter tell his customers that they did not have lemonade due to no lemons in the restaurant.

Chicken fried steak with loads of gravy was good and chocolate ice box pie was delicious. Service was great!

Tip Top, what can I say, it's good, but it need an upgrade. I know it's been around for ever, and the old, mildew smell need to go, and the waitress we had did do a really good job at checking in, especially for refills and the gravy, took a long time, and the place had only about 5 tables. Okay sorry, now the food. I have been here twice before, and the chicken fried steak is still the best, with gravy and mashed potatoes, that's was for my girlfriend, now I had the roast beef on the toast. I loved it, my girl said it was dry and salty. I don't add salt to my food when cooking, so It didn't taste salty to me. The gravy for the roast beef was awesome, and the fries were fresh and crispy. We had Salads with homemade ranch, but the salad only had lettuce and few vegetables, like 2 pieces of shaved carrots. We also started the meal with the onions rings, this was Sooo Good. The onions were lightly fried, and great tasting. I enjoyed, and I should have had the pie, so many flavors, next time, and as always my 2 cents, but give them a try, I could be wrong. Sorry I had photos but they are not wanting to add. I'll try again and update
