Obsessed with this place. I have lost count of how many times I’ve been here since coming to San Antonio. I keep telling myself that I will get the taiyaki, because I’ve never had fresh taiyaki, and then every time I go I end up ordering the chicken curry with oolong tea and plain dango. The exact same every time. I swear I’ll try the taiyaki someday. I really love this cafe.

This place has been on my "need to visit" list for a while now, so when my nieces came to town for a sleep over with my daughter and asked to try something they've never had before, this was the first thing i thought of. We absolutely loved this place. Been here 2 times in 2 weeks and each time has been great. The taiyaki filling was a little inconsistent, though. First time I went the filling was subtle, but the second time it was super filled. Absolutely delicious either way. We have tried the vanilla ice cream in a cone, oreo taiyaki, custard taiyaki, cream cheese taiyaki, butterfly lemonade and the pudding boba drink. Everything is made to order, and the filled taiyakis come out nice, hot and crispy. The ice cream with cone comes with in 3 different varieties with 2 toppings, and there's a great selection to choose from. You can also upgrade your cone to chocolate for extra. My son is constantly asking for a "fish ice cream" lol 10/10 would recommend this place and we can't wait to go back!!

I've been to 3 places in town that make good authentic Japanese food. this place had to be the worst one I've ever eaten at.

I got the shrimp tempura and a bowl of chicken curry. first the shrimp looked pre breaded and taste frozen and frost bitten, it comes with six pieces, and I was only able to get threw 2 of them. same thing with the chicken, it had tasted frozen, and frost bitten as well. this along with super huge vegetables that I've never seen in a bowl of curry served in a restaurant. potatoes looked like it was just a baked potatoes cut in half and also cooked halfway, super hard to cut threw. carrots looked like thumbs and onions were almost raw. also, don't know how they managed to make rice wrong, but they accomplished that successfully. curry is definitely from the box curry they sell next door at the Japanese store.

I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND EATING HERE! There are way more businesses in town that actually serve authentic Japanese food and actually take pride in making the food.

your best bet is just going next door buying the curry from the box and make it yourself as you will save money and have a better experience cooking your self then hating yourself for spending money on food that is not good.

Would of gave more stars but started prepping to close 2.5 hours before close closed at 8pm not 10pm like it stated on Google and no hours on the door to notify guest of any time changes came to study as I thought they were open late would of chose a different location had I known they were not truly open until 10pm

I don't like writing negative reviews because it's hard enough to be a small business owner, BUT:

We came because we wanted matcha soft serve, so we were disappointed when they didn't have it. Instead, I got a strawberry matcha latte with boba. The boba was so bad (for $1!) that I felt compelled to inform the public so no one would make the mistake I did. It was also quite warm and stuffy inside--was the AC broken?

I have been here a few times. The first time was great. The second time we bought an ice cream with extra strawberries for my boyfriend and they gave us one strawberry. This past encounter my boyfriend needed to use the bathroom badly and so he went, because we know they have one. I was in the store next to this place, grabbing a few things.

Well the staff here yelled at my boyfriend that it wasn't a public restroom. The thing is, I was going to go over there and give them another chance after the bad service last time, by ordering a taiyaki but decided not to because of how they treated my partner.

If someone needs to use the restroom, you should let them. Humans have to use the restroom, it's a natural thing. We will not be going back here. A business that won't let someone use the damn bathroom is a business I don't want to waste my money on.

The atmosphere in here is always scorching hot too and the food isn't even that good. I have gotten sick waiting for my food here before because it's so hot. Yuck. Save yourself the hassle and unfriendly environment.

Edit: After the reply of the business, I definitely will NEVER be going back. I own a business and I will always let someone use the bathroom if they need it. Gross. Spend your money somewhere else! Imagine also trying to drag another business into defending yourself too. Bad management. Big yikes.

Double edit; There is also nothing polite about shouting across your restaurant at someone for using the restroom. Work on your customer service and your honesty. Bad business.

ive been coming here every so often for a few years now. i never knew they had a weekday special !
ive had only one craving today and that was for some warm japanese curry, and this place makes it consistently delicious ! the portion is perfect, and the weekday special currydon comes with an iced tea !
the taiyaki is also really good ! hot, fresh, and made to order.
the cafe also offers free water by the counter which is super dope. i noticed that their utensils were fully stocked too, so no need to ask the employees for some.
Kaje was very polite and informed me of what teas come with the special ! i meant to tell them my order was to-go, but luckily their dishes come with a lid for easy transport back home.
ive been a happy customer everytime i come in, and i will continue to show my support for this small business. i love Hanamaru ! 🫶❤️

Slow workers, it's a slow day, ordered before some customers and their order was similar to mine yet they got their order before me. It took about 20 to 30 minutes to get mine. Desert was pretty bad, the bread like fish had little to no flavor

Was super excited to come and try this awesome and tasty treat, but wasn’t even acknowledged. Thought maybe they were noticed we were trying to figure out what we wanted and were giving us time. When we did finally approached the counter, we waited and waited. Still never had any acknowledgment that we were there.
