I went today, which is a Friday at about 2 PM. It was not that busy and there was one waitress. I asked if they had any lunch specials or combination boxes and there was none. Ordered shrimp tempura with vegetables and a bowl of rice. I got two skinny pieces of shrimp, which was laughable but the vegetables were great. It was cooked to perfection and the dipping sauce was spot on. The bowl of rice was a little dry. I’m Japanese so I would know what good rice is or so I think. My rating of three might be quite low, but because of the size of the shrimp it was very disappointing.

Our dinner was good. This was our first time to Hotaru and we needed a little guidance about the hibachi menu. While our waitress, Naomi was very nice, she didn't provide much guidance and walked off during our drink order and only came back when I called to her. We were looking for not just good food but an experience. The spring rolls were delicious. We ordered the shrimp and scallop hibachi with fried rice. The shrimp was overcooked. We also ordered pad thai. It was good. It was a dish that 2 could share. We were really interested in learning about the different types of sake but didn't get a chance. We will be back to give it another chance. We want to try some sushi and try sake.

The food was good but the service was unfortunately poor. We waited a while to be seated, again to get menus, and again to order drinks. There were only 3 other tables at that time. Our waiter was inattentive and focused on said other tables.

My wife and I have been looking for a hibachi place since we moved back and this place was amazing and reasonable priced.

Absolutely amazing. Best sushi I’ve had in the San Antonio area. Best miso soup. Best fried rice. I’m pescatarian so I’m super picky. My son had the pork Goya and he said it was the best he has ever had. You have to try this place.

Nice selection. Fish was fresh, could have kept the pieces from falling apart with a little more rice in the roll.

Love the decor and environment. Server and staff was very friendly and made great suggestions. The nigori was very good as were the selection of rolls that we had. Our favorite was the Riverwalk Roll. We came in very late just before closing but were pleasantly welcomed. I found the pricing to be comparable to the other restaurant we go to for sushi.

Had a nice lunch recently and appreciate such great service. Very clean and appropriately spaced out. Food was great!
My only qualm is, as someone who is not well versed in Asian cuisine, I was very overwhelmed by the menu. It might seem juvenile, but photos of the different types of entrees would have gone a long way. Luckily Bridget our server and chef (itamae I learned!) were very knowledgeable, descriptive, and patient. Can’t wait to be back!

Came in and sat down, waited 10 minutes to get water, and then waited another 30 minutes to get our food. There were two tables seated after me and they got their food served already.

I want to like this place, I really do. It's not bad, it's that the restaurant wants to charge premium price for sub par.
Super slow, I got up to get my own sushi off the bar. Green beans were cooked in soy sauce, reduced and overly salted.
Dull knife so the sushi was ripped. It's not a Japanese restaurant, but wants to be. It's my 4th visit in 2 years. Not sure they could make it much longer honestly
First thing to note is that this restaurant does not do the hibachi in front of you, so if you were expecting that here is your head's up. The hibachi chicken, salmon, fried rice, and vegetables were all very good. The steak and shrimp were subpar. My husband ordered the NY and I ordered the Filet minon, both(and the shrimp)had a less than pleasant flavoring that had a negative impact on the experience. Per my children, the rainbow roll was very good, the tsunami roll was not good, and the spider roll was ok. It was also far more expensive than the published stars/price range would suggest. The 6 of us came up to $300, with no alcohol and 2 of us only had water.

This was a delightful place! The filet mignon hibachi was delicious and perfectly cooked. The lunch portion was very filling and came with a soup and salad. While I was there the sushi chef was preparing a new idea for a roll and let me try and I must say it was one of the best sushi roll ideas I’ve tried. Highly recommend. The server was the sweetest and gave very helpful recommendations. I’ll definitely be back!
