If you want authentic, made from scratch comfort food, then look no further! We stopped in by chance, and even though the parking lot looked full, we were seated immediately. The menu offered a wide variety of amazing entrees and I decided to go with the chicken fried steak and eggs. The food was cooked to perfection! I can't recall the last time I had such a flavorful chicken fried steak. The eggs were made just as I had ordered and with the first bite of my pancakes it was obvious that they were made from scratch. Everything was delicious and our sever Xavier made us feel like family. I told Xavier that my only suggestion would be to change the name from Mama's to Better Than To Mama's! (Sorry mom, I love you!)

The country fried steak was excellent, but the mac n cheese has zero cheese flavor, and the sweet tea was weak. Service was good despite the place being packed, so obviously, it's a local favorite.

This one of old San Antonio's classic restaurants. The food, atmosphere and service are great. The food is prepared and served pretty fast for lunch on busy work day. Chocolate cake is legendary.

I come here at least every 2 weeks and have the beer battered mushrooms and gravy. Today I'm trying the pot roast again. If you ever go you must try the chocolate cake with ice cream it's beautiful. Update today 10/29/24, I had the fried Catfish with thinly sliced sweet yellow onion rings, amazing and a large basket of the most delicious beer battered shoots with creamy gravy, the staff is so friendly and the most amazing warm chocolate cake. Soo good.
Parking: Loads of parking even at lunch during the week.

First time at Mama's Cafe and it did not disappoint. The Cowboy dining room was fun and rustic. We tried the Crispy Deviled Eggs and they were awesome! I had the wagyu chicken fried steak and it was one of the best I have had. And the gravy was perfect!! Away from the Riverwalk crowd, easy to hold a conversation and enjoy dinner. Definately recommend if in San Antonio!

We have enjoyed this place for decades! Yes! Follow the old people for the best places to eat! We learned that in Florida!

Intro: the food was average. Nothing special
Pros:
-food was fast and ready
-I like how the chicken was cooked
-the price was good
Cons:
-the biscuit was hard as a rock. No amount of gravy could save it.
-the sides were not cooked well and very hard. Wasn’t really edible
Overall: average depending on your pallet
