Great food, friendly owner. We ordered a lot of things and they came out in a timely manner. Don't like that its in a gas station but its clean. Would recommend and I'm Panamanian. Try the arroz con pollo and potato salad.

I read Shaunda's post on the San Antonio Restaurant Facebook page and we headed over to try @puropanjaz Panamanian cuisine. It's a stone's throw from Toyota Field and Morgan's Wonderland, inside the convenience store at the Chevron gas station. Shaunda grew up cooking with grandma, a Panamanian-Jamaican influence. Please be patient as the great food takes time. She won first place on Food Network's cupcake wars and a graduate of CIA San Antonio. We tried everything on today's menu (see photo). Most flavorful were the oxtail, Arroz con Pollo, Empanada, and Panamanian Tamal. The chicken in the Pollo and Tamal was so moist. No surprise that Shaunda brines the chicken! The Patacones and Yucca Fries were great with Panamanian ketchup. She didn't have dessert today, but I look forward to trying the rum cake. Please stop by and support her business. There is limited seating. It was great running into James and Ryan, who also saw the post.

The food was amazing! I would reccomend it to anyone. I went into the gas station this restaurant is located in expecting to get a cheap hot dog, or a bland pre-made sandwich. And I ended up getting some of the best food I've ever had in Texas. YOU HAVE TO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!!

My beloved and myself found ourselves out on a Sunday afternoon. She had had a sandwich at some fast food place and i had settled for something to drink. She had found out about Panjaz via Facebook and since i grew up in Panama, felt we should check it out. Thus we found ourselves at The Zone building by Morgan's Wonderland and Toyota Field (Heroes Stadium). Passing by the Chevron counter, tucked into the back was Panjaz! The menu placed on the wall behind the counter promised a cornucopia of gustatory delights. South Texas Summer - 100+degree heat. Ah! Ceviche de Pescado. That's the Ticket! But alas my hopes were dashed as they were sold out. But there is always a plan B. In this case Bacalao Sancochado on a bed of Panamanian style rice and with a side Potato Salad. plus the elusive Empanadas! The portion size was generous. The Bacalao was classically salty with the veggies done blending well with the taste. The rice and guandu supporting the fish and mitigating the salt, blending this dish into a savory whole. An unexpected feast in the swelter of South Texas Mid-Summer. The owner Shaunda Hopkins Lohse is genial and has a touch in the kitchen that is a marvel to behold. She has a winning personality and a joy that is contageous (and a Colonense to boot!). The bias is more towards the Colon Atlantic side with that flavor swagger that marries Caribbean to the Isthmus and the melding of tastes and cultures that is Panama. In short it tasted of home and memories of days gone by. I shall return.

I visited and placed an order for various items, including carimañolas, empanadas, plantains, and oxtails with rice, for my mother, myself, and my daughter. The food was absolutely delightful, both in taste and aroma. I highly recommend this place for takeout food.THE RESTAURANT IS INSIDE OF THE GAS STATION IN FRONT OF THE HEROES STADIUM.

So glad I made my family drive to find this location. The food is so yummy. We had arroz con pollo, tamales, carimañolas, and ropa vieja and they were all legit! We even went back and ordered it all again to bring to the grandparents in Kerrville. They loved it all too. It will be a regular stop when I’m in the San Antonio area.
