Absolutely phenomenal food. 10/10
Went with family, six of us. Food was fantastic service was great. Stone fruit salad, taco combo, street corn all amazing. The decor is low end and it was actually fun to eat super high end in a low key place. We're coming back

Amazing hidden gem.
Dietary restrictions: My daughter has celiac disease. The staff and the food was amazing. Such creative cuisine. My daughter felt so comfortable eating everything. Rarely does she get an opportunity to try everything. A must if you visit San Antonio. Bravo.

The food was very visually appealing, and super tasty! The price was a little high for everything, and the portions were a little off, but other than that it was an overall very good first time experience. In terms of portions, the rice to meat ratio for a couple of the entrees wasn't the best. It seemed like there was a lot more rice than entree. Also, was a little disappointed with the garlic steak in the Stone bowl. It was a small amount chopped up in tiny pieces, which made it feel like I wasn't getting enough for the price. The honey ricotta salad was absolutely delicious, it was very refreshing and the flavor profile was superb! The churro bread pudding is a must, it was really tasty! Overall I would rate my experience a 4.6. If the menu items were slightly refined it would definitely boost my opinion of the restaurant as a whole!

This place is a hidden gem! I had the cucumber appetizer and the Big Red and Barbacoa Taco Flight. It was outstanding! The service was warm and friendly. You’ve got to check this place out. I’m definitely coming back and highly recommend it to friends and family.

I give it 3 stars because their menu items description said with microgreens so I was expecting microgreens. What I got was 2 or 3 strands. It was more like a garnish. Very deceiving!. . Also, street corn was too expensive for a corn cob cut into halves. Not worth it. Last order I was disappointed because my Chicken was dry. Flavors are there but overall lack of quality for the price.

Chef Leo Davila's concept has taken a foothold in San Antonio. Exceptional food preparation, technique, flavor, the precision of the food is only matched by the narratives of each plate that explains its complexity and journey from Chef’s inspiration to the table.
The Big Red & Barbacoa Taco Flight is his signature dish. 31 attempts to find the perfect balance to mix the cloyingly syrupy soda into the nixtamalized corn to create a subtly sweet mix married to masa topped by a rendered barbacoa that is lean and flavorful, topped with house jam, chile de arbol salsa, queso fresco, and pickled watermelon rind. The watermelon rind is from his childhood, from summers of backyard parties. The food not only reflects his innovation but his legacy. The house jam and watermelon is reminiscent of his childhood upbringing with his Chinese grandmother in the backyard, while the Big Red also conjures up memories of Sunday AMs drinking the pop with barbacoa, a San Antono tradition.
Other plates infuse his Chinese Mexican American heritage, including the Wok Fried Signature
Pork Belly Delight and the incredible Pan Seared Duck Breast with Hibiscus Mole. I have been several times and listing every dish is practically just giving you the menu. Other faves include the Sticky Sticky Ribs, the Chicken & Hong Kong Waffle, and the seasonal Crispy Dogs and Chicken on a Stick beauties.
Beverages are standard non alcoholic options that add little consequence to the menu. Service is above average and always attentive. Servers / hosts are all family, from the inspiration of many of the dishes affectionately called The Granny and his mother, known as The Mother. Service is very family oriented and friendly, and due to the inherent relationships, the service shares the narratives and same desire to present not just the food but the story.
I’ve been to Stix and Stone several times (most recently November 14th, 2024), and it’s consistently one of the best dining experiences. The biggest complaint from folks is the site itself; the strip mall location and low key setting can create a dissonance with the elite level cuisine. In the end, I am of the camp that I don’t eat walls, I eat good food. Every person I have recommended the restaurant to has had a great experience.
As the San Antonio UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy Chef Ambassador for the next two years, he’s continuously pushing the envelope whether in the US or abroad in China. His selection proves that not only is he doing the work but others have taken notice. Folks can describe Chef Leo Davila’s concept as Asian Fusion, but the word fusion with it’s unfavorable connotations belies the wonderfulness of the food. Chef Leo Davila’s food is much more than fusion and is a reflection of his legacy.
Arguably one of the most innovative cuisines in San Antonio, folks online (including many 210ers) relegated Stixs & Stone to dribble like "Asian fusion tacos..." "Bougie Northside tacos..." "those aren't real tacos" even after being named in the Top Ten of Texas Monthly’s Top 50 Best Tacos.
And that’s a shame. As a Southsider, I get it. I too love my Military Dr tacos and joints, but I promise you, and even those who live in other areas of San Antonio, Chef Leo Davila’s Stixs & Stone is doing big things and pushing San Antonio cuisine to new heights.

Taco flight was amazing! Street corn was not what I expected but absolutely delicious. No photos because we ate too fast and didn’t pause to take a picture. We’ll definitely be back to try something else on the menu.

Restaurantji Recommends
Get in while you can! This place has a whole-in-the-wall atmosphere but is serving up exciting Asian fusion dishes you would find at some of the most exclusive restaurants. I highly recommend checking them out before they move because I promise it's only a matter of time before they outgrow this space. Everything is cooked fresh and with attention to detail.

Small business with fantastic food. Everything we ate was fantastic from the queso fundido, the pork belly and the steak and frites. Would highly recommend despite what you might think walking in.

No booze btw. And probably not a first date place unless she’s super cool.

Traveled all the way here to try something new and was NOT disappointed ❤
First off the customer service was amazing, very friendly and welcoming, always coming by to our table to check in on us.
Loved that they had a water pitcher at our table and my Dr. Pepper was given in a bottle and you can get ice in your cup if you want! I actually prefer it this way
Appetizer:
We had the Chef's Favorite Skewer Trio which gave us a taste of the different sauces they had paired with different meats, I think this is a great way to introduce that fusion taste!
Entrees:
My wife tried their Signature Pork Belly & Cheesy Polenta, the cheesy polenta was amazing paired with the pork belly that gave it a beautiful taste that nearly melted into your mouth! She even mentioned how the zucchinis reminded her of her grandma's homemade cooking.
I tried the Signature Wok Fried Kimchi Stone Bow w/ pork belly and added an extra side of kimchi. The kimchi was amazing! I'm an avid kimchi fan of different types, this one was great to pair with the meats we had! It wasn't too spicy at all, just right for the flavor!
Dessert:
We tried the Signature Churro Bread Pudding and Tres Leches, which was AMAZING. My wife stole my last pieces when I wasn't looking so that says something lol
I WILL be returning since my wife wouldn't stop talking about it on the ride home ❤
Extra note: They have a single toilet restroom with a double lock and it's something I like to mention onto reviews for those who need one close by. Very clean and comfortable!
Dietary restrictions: I over heard a neighboring table speak about gluten allergy etc, and the waitress was able to give different options and recommendations. She was accommodating, even though they don't offer a lot of alternative choices for different allergies and other restrictions, I believe they're gonna have more in the future!
